Imagine you bid 2♣ and the bidding continues:2♠ - p - p - ? Question 2a: What now?Question 2b: Do you treat X in this sequence as take/out (showing something like -346, otherwise first round X with eg -445) or penalty?
aguahombre
1. 2c2. 2NT (delay unusual)...delay double would have 4 hearts and longer clubs, not wanting to double in the balance seat the first time.
ArtK78
There is a lot to be said for doubling the first time since balancing in a suit tends to show less than full opening values. Having balanced with 2♣, I would double when in balancing seat for the second time. It is clearly for takeout.
aguahombre
There is a lot to be said for doubling the first time since balancing in a suit tends to show less than full opening values.I don't think opening values should be the benchmark for balancing action. For some of us, a balancing suit bid has an upper limit of about a king less than it would in direct seat. This hand fits it with that, and a double could be brutal with no spades and only 3 hearts. jmcw
If you are prepared to have partner pass a X then thats the bid you should make. If not then 3♣ or 2NT, its a toss up for me.

Zelandakh
1. 2C2a. Double2b. Take-out, typically at least 335 in the other 3 suits (respond pretty much as if partner has 1336).
Fluffy
I know I'd double first time, but I'd have a big problem second round, havin bid 2♣ its so obvious to double again althouh the values are pehaps minimum or sub-minimum
whereagles
Direct 3C seems normal.
MrAce
2♣ and dbl later if needed for me. Suit is not good enough for direct 3♣ and this hand has more potentials than just putting all eggs into ♣ basket.
