[3m] X [5m] you to bid

Recommended Posts

Two hands where opps open 3m non vuln, next hand doubles and third hand raises to 5m (could be good expecting to make, or preemptive - you are on a guess!)

What action do you take in 4th seat and why?

Hand 1:

[hv=pc=n&e=st62haqj84d9763c5&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=3cd5c]133|200[/hv]

Hand 2:

[hv=pc=n&n=s832hq9732d8cq943&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=3dd5d]133|200[/hv]

I look forward to your thoughts!

I would bid five hearts on the first hand, but think it is minimum. The vulnerability increases the chance that partner has a proper double and the opposition make take a save to six clubs.

Second hand is an easy pass and I'd pass a second double too.

I presume that these are imp problems from yesterday's National Swiss Teams!

In order to have a reasonable chance to make 5, we need a big hand from pd, not a 4441 or some 3451 13 hcp. Bidding 5 now will not only turn a plus to minus as Nigel said, but also has the danger of being lifted to 6 by pd. DBL doesnt mean "i have suit pd" it means cards.

Also, no need to mention that stronger hand of opponents is behind our pd. Lets give pd a decent hand AQxx Kxxx AKx xx or AQxx Kxxx AKxx x or even stronger and all prime hcps AKxx Kxxx AKxx x we still have too many losers for 5 level.
