Where will you get?

Once North opens the bidding you can't stop short of game. I usually open these but I'd be willing to bet that if I looked back at my results I would see that it is a loser. If one of the suits were spades then it would be an obvious opener. On this one, if you can keep from being doubled you may be ok.

The opening bid was fine. We haven't gone so far in resolving the responder paradox as to merely invite with the South hand (yet).

So, without resulting, we would probably end in 3NT or 5C. End is 3S, maybe if South decides to try 3S treated as damned near forcing after 1M-1S-2D (different from the invite it would be if opener were known to have a balanced hand).

1H = 10-17, 5+ hearts

... - 1S = INV+ relay

1N = min, 0-3 spades

... - 2C = GF relay

2D = 4+ clubs

... - 2H = relay

2N = 5 spades, 4 clubs

... - 3C = relay

3D = 0-1 spades

... - 3S = diamond stop?

3N = yes

Perhaps the South hand should not GF opposite a light opening style but I think I would anyway, especially given we are vul at IMPs. The alternative over 1N would be 2S (invitational with 5+ spades), then 2NT - 3C - P would be possible.

maybe

1h=1s

2d=2nt(12-13 invite)

p(any bid over 2nt i as play gf).

this also assumes we would often raise 1s with only 3s and shortness.

I find it really hard to believe that anyone as South would give partner a chance to pass below game. I am absolutely sure that Mike would not at the table, only in a forum where he can see both hands.

Imp's

Using Meckwell GF gadget for the 1H - 1S, 2D rebid auction:

1H - 1S

2D - 2S! ( artificial GF )

3C - 3NT

Or without the gadget, use the 2C rebid which allows for a cheap 4th suit GF :

1H - 1S

2C - 2D! ( 4th suit GF )

3D - 3NT

Hi,

#1 1H is fine.

#2 South will force to game.

1H - 1S

2C (1) - 2D (2)

2H (3) - 3C (4)

3NT (5) - all pass

(1) given the suit quality, 2D may be better, but

I know we have a 44 fit in clubs

Depening on style in place, 2C may not even promise

4 cards, contrary to 2D, so 2D may be the stand out

bid, ... but I know we have a 44 fit in clubs, ...

(2) FSF

(3) min

(4) GF, the alternative would be 3S, showing the 6th spade,

but since p denied 3 cards, and the spade suit is not

brilliant 3C, p can still show secondary spade support

(5) what else, should also deny something like Hx in spade

With kind regards

Marlowe

My Auction:

1H - 1S

2D - 3C

3NT - P

2 = hopefully I can bid 3 next to bid out my shape

3= generic game force - when I have 13 points and partner opens we go to game no matter how much anyone hates it

3NT = I have a club stopper and no other descriptive bid

Pass = seems like a good time to make a sandwich
