SOS ?

I would guess partner is 4405 or 4414.

Could partner bid this way with 3415? Maybe he should be able to...if we are 5332 or something it's the only way to get to spades. However, that makes it tough for us on this hand, since if we know partner has 4 spades we want to bid 4 spades, but if he could be 3415 that would not be such a great bid.

I guess I'd just bid 3D, and if partner bids 3S i'd bid 4S, if partner bid 3H I would bid 3S. Also, this is another huge problem with systems like DONT, I suppose we bid 2D planning to pass 2H, because if partner has 4 hearts our hand is not very good, but what if partner just had 5 hearts and 5 clubs? Letting partner know you have a 5 card major so he can bid game is very important imo.

You didn't explain what 2 meant. Is it natural? Is it 'tell me your other suit'?

The redouble could be:

1. This is my other suit.

2. I'm ok playing in this suit if you have it (what you call support).

3. This is not the suit where I want to play in, choose between the others (What you call SOS).

1 and 2 are similar and 3 could only occur if your partner is very 'creative' and s/he has 4-3 or 4-4 in the Majors and wants you to choose. At the table I might pass unless 2 is natural I guess.

I would take 2D as " I can't stand clubs ... " .

As far as Overcaller liking Diam, wouldn't "pass" suffice ?

So redouble is never to play?

Pass would be to play; think we have to give up the unlikely possibility of a great result from 2m xx. Our 2D wanted to know what pard's non-club suit was; double by opener was allegedly penalty; partner's redouble must be 3-suited, but if (4-3)-1-5 how can we survive? Looks like we are headed for a 4-3 fit (at the 2-level if we bid 2S --at the 3-level if we bid 3D).

Maybe the redouble has to be exactly 4-4-0-5, and we must show the majors initially with 4-4-1-4 in order to get out alive.

So in your opinion, rather than pass to show diamonds, partner has redoubled for penalty 2D because his hand/diamonds are so good... despite us having shown no values at all. We just happen to hold 5 diamonds and A A K...nice. And LHO opened 1N and doubled 2D for penalty. You are so confident of this that you're going to pass 2D XX. I don't really know what to say.
