Slightly conservative bidding by opponents. A lot of players would respond 1 rather than pass and may eventually wind up in 3 instead of defending 2. Or West could have doubled 1 instead of bidding 2 and they could compete in s. This being IMPs they were somewhat conservative and left me an interesting 2 to play.

Q was led. Best defense is to overtake with K, lead a to partner's Jack and exit a . Take it from there. Play or defend ?

I think win, play two trumps and duck a club. RHO can't win the club so LHO wins and can do no better than playing a second club. Win in dummy, ruff a heart and play a diamond. LHO is endplayed into either leading a heart (ruff and sluff), a low diamond (pitch a club, RHO must ruff but then you can ruff the fourth diamond) or the diamond ace (ruff, RHO can overruff but then your king is good).

About the bidding, let me just say that to me EW do not look good. 1D seems especially bad, but 2D also wouldn't be my choice. I'd just pass.

I don't understand Antrax's comment about the defense. I think you can play exactly the same way but taking out the heart ace limits your choices.

They might not be playing a 15-17 1N if that's what you're getting at about 1, but I'd have certainly responded 1 and not bid 2.

I also think your line is good.
