ATB for us being outbid

East must make a move after that strong action by opener. West is strong enough to freebid a take out when pard could be empty. With my regular pard West would already know 2-3 card spade fit as well since we use forcing nt to escape a complete misfit. 4 Hearts seems a healthy bid 4 for working queens a point for a 6 card suit and 2 points for shortness (sure it is in partners first suit, but you can see losers disappearing on partners spades if need be).

double by west is 100% clear and bidding 2 deserves -800 with +110 avaible in clubs.

Only question is if East should bid or 3 or 4 3 looks like enough, I mena, he would obviously jump to 3 hearts had his RHO passed, but jumping to the 4 level is probably too much.

West has described his hand well by making a VUL X at his second turn opposite a passing partner, he can do no more.

In the context of the auction East has a monster, A likely 10 card fit, known shortness from opener, a ruffing value and a supporting honor in . 4 all day.

Should East have found a bid over 3?

Should West have found a second take out double?

Q1] with 2 working queens and having passed 1 initially I think E could risk 3

Q1] same as previous reply

Agree with everyone else - East 100%. I would have responded 1NT but East has a clear 4 the second time and not bidding even 3 is terrible. Having said that, if I was West and playing with a beginner or known underbidder I would probably double a third time.

I am fine with passing 1S but yeah, even just bidding 3H would be completely terrible. Partner, red/white, after we showed 0-5, doubled 2D. Obviously he has extras to go with his stiff diamond. But we don't even need extras! Kxxxx AJxx x Axx is a good game. Pretty cherry picked, but it's also only a 12 count, which partner cannot have. Even a hand where the SQ and HQ are both ueless, like Axxxx AKxx x Axx is like a 100 % game. Indeed with 2632 and a 0 count, bidding 4H would certainly be reasonable. Having 3 diamonds opposite partners stiff to go with our 6 hearts is super powerful, and then we have the great Qx of spades and QT9 of hearts.

Do you really think West's DBL was agressive ?

Slightly, yes. Its opposite a hand that cannot take a call over 1. How much of the deck do you think we have, and whats our future if partner cannot balance if LHO passes?

But I like double because I have such great support for hearts and clubs and my hand is useful when partner has spades, and also when he doesn't. See the OP or x xxx xxx QJxxxx.

In other words, if I had AJxxx ATxx xx AK I doubt Id be bidding.

I remember a thread where Fred said (or i thought he said) that in their pdship DBL would show 4+3 rather than vice versa, and that he would expect his pd to bid suit if he has 4 of them.

Am i totally confusing this auction with something else or was the auction he refered was similar to this ?

Ace, you are confused with the auction

1S - p - 1NT - (2D)

..

Here Fred said he'd typically bid 2H with 5413. Of course this auction is completely different.

By the way, you meant to write 4

Ty Han, and yes sorry, i meant 4, i forgot their suit was .
