Lurpoa
I think playing 1N opposite a balanced 3 card limit raise will be a massive winner over playing 3S. Spades is supposed to take THREE more tricks? Yeah right. I think it is opposite an unbalanced 3 card limit raise where 1N and 3M might break even. (All of that was assuming imps). Good analysis ! It is the first time I find a very good justification of the "semi"forcing 1NT: responder did bid 1NT on 3=4=3=3, and opener passes on 5=(2-3-3). This was valid after a 1♠ opener. Same goes for the the 1♥opener. On 1♥ the 1NT could hide a flat ♥ support hand. : 2=3-4-4, or 3=3-3-4 and opener passes on 2=5-3-3 or 3=5-3-2 (12-13HPC). On the other hand very often (I would say expert practise) a single Major raise is often played as moderatelyconstructive, and the 1NTbid can hide a weak 3card suport. In that case 1NT might not be such a good contract.....But then I guess the opps have something to play.....strange we have not yet heard from them...:)
