Creeksider
At every table, the bidding starts with 1♦ and GIB doubles with a description indicating a takeout double, short in diamonds. Also, the description for the subsequent bid says "at best partial stop in diamonds," while the actual holding in that suit is KJTxx Handviewer link
Bbradley62
It looks to me like GIB initially wants to "double and correct" to NT, since he is too strong for a direct 1NT overcall, but then he gets sidetracked.
Creeksider
Right, I was forgetting X here is essentially a multi bid, working either for a good hand with specified shape or a strong hand with no specified shape. The description offered by GIB is just for the former, and this happens to be the latter. But it seems like the second bid is wrong . . . or if correct, it is wrongly described. barmar
I think its problem is that it had a hand that was the correct strength for double then 1NT, but not strong enough for double then 2NT (this shows 21+ or 22+, I think). So all it could do was cue bid to show a big double with no biddable suit. The description should probably not say anything specific about diamonds.
