Their methods were o.k. for them, back then; and I believe some tools they used have been refined and are still being employed today. Their standards for an opening bid, and their wait-around approach to entering the opponents' auction would not be successful against strong modern pairs, however. I suspect the "Roth Stone" approach Mike777 uses is not pure, but rather more in-tune with modern conditions. My guess is many agree with your point about wait-around and bid approach, my partners would strongly, but......still I wonder..... --- I thinkI get a lot more hateful really hateful comments on bbo when I open lite than when I Play rothsstone style on bbo. This is problematic; I don't know if partner is raising diamonds or if it's a cuebid for spades. I'm going to guess it's a diamond raise since we've already denied 4 spades.
