hrothgar
What would 5♦ mean? Natural or slam invite in hearts?
whereagles
6♥. Sometimes you just have to guess.
aguahombre
6♥. Sometimes you just have to guess.I try to avoid guessing all by myself if there is another possible action; I like 5D
ArtK78
I don't see why 5♦ would be anything but natural. The 3♥ bid did not commit us to play in hearts. So, it is really guessing time. I have a lot for partner, who should have a good hand given his immediate action over 3♣. I will guess 6♥, but I don't have a lot of confidence in that guess. whereagles
I try to avoid guessing all by myself if there is another possible action; I like 5D You'd be guessing what pard makes of it, which can turn out quite more embarassing :)
gwnn
3C-4H-5C-5D should be a good raise but this 5D should be natural. So we're stuck. I won't even attempt to make up my mind here, I just wanted to post about the difference between 3H and 4H.
nigel_k
Agree that 5♦ is to play and I would just bid 5♥. Slam could make but is against the odds and partner can still bid it sometimes.
Free
5♥ seems canonical
gnasher
I don't see why people expect to make a slam. Partner is probably short in clubs too, so the empty spade and diamond suits may well produce a loser or two. In fact, AQx AQxxxx xxx x is a normal-looking 3♥ bid where we won't even make 5♥. I'd double, assuming that's showing cards rather than just penalties. If partner leaves it in, we'll probably get 500; if he takes it out I'll settle for a game bonus. Hanoi5
I was also trying to decide between doubling and bidding 5♥ and was a little surprised at so many slam 'tries'. I choose 5♥ here.
the hog
5♥ seems canonical Once again I agree with Nuno. Oh! Free has usurped the canonical term.Seriously, just 5H. Why do you expect a slam to be there?
MrAce
What would 5♦ mean? Natural or slam invite in hearts? I am sure in BBO forums it could mean something other than natural for this specific hand and something else in an other thread on another day, i would not be surprised if someone writes a long analysis about why it shd show a hand like we hold. But unfortunately for those who plays bridge instead of writing sci-fi bridge analysis, it is natural.
han
I would also double, I think our hand is just not that good.
