mgoetze
I would have bid 2♥. I don't in general care much about suit quality for such two-suiter overcalls, but if I did I would consider that the 6th spade compensates for the lack of honors. mck4711
A 6-6.5 loser hand. Absolute minimum for Michael's with unfavourable vulnerability. At IMP I think I would pass.At matchpoint 2♥.
han
Passing is really bad imo, I think 1S stands out. Perhaps if 2H shows spades and clubs I would bid it. If you feel like you want to bid over 4H, you probably realize that you made a mistake on the previous round.
phil_20686
It this hand had come round to me p 4H ? I would have bid 4S for sure at these colours. I think I can probably manage a one level overcall. :) I have no particular problem with micheals, it just depends on ones style.

Yes, if you want to get involved it seems right to get in there and out again quickly. It's not very often that you will want to bid over 4♥ but not over 1♥. ArtK78
I would have bid 2♥ over 1♥. Partner needs only a few cards for 4♠ to be a claim (a perfect minimum would be Axxx xxx xxxx Kx). I have to get into the auction now as the next time I get a chance to bid will be too high.
aguahombre
As before, I beg the OP not to show us the complete hand. The debate on Michaels vs 1♠ vs no bid on the first round is sufficiently interesting. I would probably Mike it over 1H, whether the opps were playing ACOL or anything else. Not a fan of passing and trying to do it all from my side of the table at a higher level; 1♠, if for some reason Michaels was not available. Phil
Specific two suiters are nice, but they give up something else. I would Michaels this hand and I consider it a clear error not to.
neilkaz
2♥ Mike for me. The 6th ♠ compensates for the lack of honors. I think passing initially is simply awful. If not 2♥ then just o/c 1♠.
Finch
I also think Michaels is clear - you have 6-5, not 5-5 and you are 2-0 not 1-1, and you have AQ10 rather than KQJ of clubs which is a much better 6 points in the suit. mcphee
It is important to bid with this hands at first turn, at all forms of scoring. Now that it has come back to you at the 4 level, bidding is just playing all alone.
