Three queens

Your partner deals you a fine hand, as usual:

QTxxxx

QT

Tx

Q9x

Assuming for the moment that weak jump shifts either aren't on your card, or this hand doesn't meet your partnership's standards for them, the auction starts, with silent opponents:

1 - 1

2 - 2

Which of your partner's 3rd bids can you drop him in? Which of your partner's 3rd bids will you drop him in? If not, what is your own 3rd bid going to be?

In most of my partnerships, my 2 is a weakness signal, showing 5+ spades but a weak hand. Partner's only forcing bid is 3 (fourth suit forcing). I can and will pass anything else. Over 3, I will bid 3. Depending on the colors and form of scoring, I might have preferred a pass of 1 to start.

I don't play 2S there as weakness, just as 5+ S F1.

I think that 2nt and 3C from p are non-forcing. Of those I would pass 3C and correct 2nt to 3C, expecting p to pass this.

I play 3D here as fourth suit forcing and 3S as gf. If p bids 3S I will bid 4S and if p bids 3D I will bid 3S. If p bids 3H, showing a 6-5 hand I will bid 4C because I like my round suit holdings and am happy to co operate with partner if he has a monster (Kx AKxxx - AKxxxx is a pretty perfect hand for p to have but possible on this auction).

We play that 2 showed 5+ , any strength , F1.

Opener's 3rd calls 2NT, 3 , 3 (nice but not a GF 6-5), 3 (often 2425) are not forcing for us.

The only forcing call is a 4sf 3 , or obviously 4 as a splinter agreeing s.

With my actual hand , I am not going to pass any of those, because of my fit , and 2 working queens.

After a reverse I play 2s=5+s and a max of 8-9 hcp.

Pard is forced to bid again but we do notpromise a rebid.

3d(4sf) rebid by opener would now be forcing.

An interesting difference of opinion about 3H (the one I was least sure about.)

At the table partner had void Axxxx Ax AKJxxx, and for whatever reason made the serious underbid of 3C and got left there for 170. Over 3H we may well have gotten our 400 or 420 but it wouldn't have been because we knew what we were doing. 170 was still worth an average: one pair in 6C, two in 4H, two in 5C, a few partscores in hearts scoring 200 on a lucky break, lots of 170s and 150s in clubs, and 3NT ran on the rocks.

3 is passable, and an underbid. I would rebid 3GF, showing my 6/5.

As responder I would just rebid 5 over 3 as a sign off.
