Hanoi5
[hv=pc=n&s=sq532hkt32datca73&w=sk96haj7dk43ct862&n=s4hq98654dqj96cj9&e=sajt87hd8752ckq54]399|300[/hv] The N/S part of the team comes with +140 for 2♥ with an overtrick. The E/W brings +100 for 4♥ -2. Do you reprimand E/W for not reaching game in spades? 26 tables played the hand, only 10 played in spades while the rest played in hearts. mikeh
I would hope that you would never 'reprimand' your teammates for anything! At most, you should enquire, after the event or maybe over a dinner break, how the auction went....and (on a different hand than this one) ask whether E or W considered some other action at some point...in a tone of curiosity, not reprimand. As it is, even if the auction 'told' West that his diamond K was working, why would you, single dummy, want to be in 4♠? I would never, even to myself, criticize teammates who stayed out of game here. Admittedly my view might alter if I had an auction to consider, but I assume that S opened, either a weak 1N or 1♣. In either case, one would expect to lose 2 clubs, and 2 diamonds and have to find the spade Q. The fact that N held the club J9 is not something EW should cater to in the auction. Cascade
Who was dealer? - should I be able to tell from the diagram? I mean am I missing something? What was the auction?
aguahombre
I would compliment them for bringing back plus 6 IMPS instead of shooting a "spades over hearts" thing which might have resulted in only plus one or two IMPs unless the lucky club and diamond positions and spade guess happened for +11. In fact I might not even dscuss this board, unless they brought it up because the locations of the diamond ace and king affect the heart contract drastically and I would confuse myself trying to analyze it all. JLOGIC
How many people do you think would make 4S? It requires very careful play, not to mention a miracle. 0) You do not give us a bridge problem, you ask us if we would reprimand our teammates. Reading between the lines, you are asking us how bad it is to not reach 4S.1) You don't say who is dealer, so we can't tell you how we think the auction should go, so it's impossible to say how bad it is.2) You don't give us an auction, so there is nothing to discuss about their auction, so it's impossible to say how bad it is.3) Common sense would suggest that we would not fault our teammates for failing to reach this horrendous game. Common sense would prevent you from starting this thread.4) This thread is horrible.
Hanoi5
South was dealer. 1♣-Pa-1♥-1♠ But I don't recall exactly what happened from here on. It might have been: 2♥-2♠-4♥-All Pass Out of the 6 pairs who reached 4♠ only 2 made the contract. My common sense has never functioned properly, thus this and many other topics with stupid questions. Anyway I got the answer I wanted: 4♠ is not a normal contract to reach so no fuss should be made about it, so it is not that horrible... for me. gszes
LET IT GO is probably the ONLY thing you should ever do in any problem handeven if you could bid it all by yourself w/o any problem. Hammering onteammates fosters an atmosphere of discontent at best and will do nothingto improve your team in the long run. If you had a useful suggestion on how to bid a problem hand ask if they want to hear it and shut up if theysay no:))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) as for the hand itself my auction would go1c p 1h 1s 2h 3h (p or x or 4h) 4s and we might get lucky and make it but I amVERY aggressive. No matter what the opps are not playing 3h. If myteammates let them bid and play 3h no worries they did what theythought best and unless you start hammering on them they will stillbe on your side for the rest of the match:))))) try to enjoy this great gameyou are learning and let your partners/teammates enjoy it as well.
dake50
I would never criticize partners who failed to bid a reasonable game. After all the contest is not won by the team finding reasonable games.Oh wait IT IS.
P_Marlowe
South was dealer. 1♣-Pa-1♥-1♠ But I don't recall exactly what happened from here on. I may be more interested, why NS was allowed to play 2H, when we have a 8 card spade fit and approx. 20HCP, letting them play 3H is ok, but selling out to 2H?And this is a source for IMP wins / looses. If the auction goes (1C) - Pass - (1H) - 1S(2H) - 2S - (4H) - Pass(Pass) - ??? the question is not, if West should bid 4S, the question is, if West should double. With kind regardsMarlowe
gnasher
Anyway I got the answer I wanted: 4♠ is not a normal contract to reach so no fuss should be made about itEven if 4♠ had been cold and trivial to bid, why would you want to make a fuss about it? daveharty
As others have said, of course you should not reprimand your teammates for "missing" 4S. To me, the only pair that really deserves criticism in the postmortem is the EW pair from the other table, for inexplicably selling to 2H; that is a far stranger decision than not bidding game with the EW cards.
