You are at the TGR-robber club in London, and ur are playing at the high stake table and u have just cut ZIA as ur partner and ur opps are worlc class players and real sharks gunnar and nick.

you are doing very well, just made a beutifull defence and ZIA is impressed, now you get a big ego bost and bid a litle hard on the last hand, and the wourst thing is that u dint get the contract on ZIAs hand, whith is a smart thing to try to do as often as possible.

ok better not mess up then :

beside the glory its also 500 punds to win on this play:)

[hv=d=n&v=b&n=sqxha108xxdaj8xcxx&s=sakj109hjxdk109caqx]133|200|Scoring: Rubber

lead small (sp)[/hv]

Zia open 1 hart, and you bid -1 spade- 2 dimond-3 club-3 spades-4club-4-dimonds-4nt-6nt all pass. opps was passing all the time and the S lead is very passiv.

how do u play?

9 tricks on top, finese can help on just 2 more, but if you missguess you are down, seems more sensible to start with , to the 8 has better chances if you want to develop many trricks, but if it loses to the 9 again you will need 2 fineses.... still its worth it I think. So I´d go for 8 at start as Jimmy suggested.

i'd get out my checkbook and finesse the 8... i want K,9,x on my left and Q,x,x on my right

Hi

Why finesse the 8? You need hearts to be 33. you can't win against H9xx or 9x or even KQ9x.

BUT except H9x you can win against KQx, if you lead the !HJ.

Or am I wrong?

Regards

Al

yes, you absolutely need 3/3 hearts... so assume you have it... now all you need is H9x on your left for the 8 to win...

Jimmy, if this is right play, then HJ first would be right as well.

My plan is to finesse Hj in 2nd round. If LHO cover, then I cover with Ace. Cashing all spades. This will exercise some pressure on def and may give me enough info on the play of Diamond.

It is not easy.

What does a good player play from KQx or H9x.

With KQx will he play low? With H9x will he play the H?

IMO the best shot is to lead the 10 af let it ride. if LHO covers the 10, you can finesse in the next round.

PLaying the J is a mistake because if it gets covered and you don´t guess the position next you don´t have any recover since oppoennts will win 2 tricks.

There are other small chances besides and you cannot tuin them.

On the other side K9x + Q9x has exactly twice the % of appearing than KQx.

i don't know what's right, percentage-wise... all i know is, i don't want the J covered if i lead it... a long time ago someone told me that you shouldn't finesse if you do NOT want the card covered... say i lead the J and lho plays the K... now what? with 3/3 hearts and split honors it all boils down to who holds the 9... the very same scenerio existed before i played... all the play of the 8 does is finesse against the 9, hoping for split honors

maybe you who advocate leading the J are correct... i'm not convinced yet, so i play to the 8
