Playing IMPs online against good opponents. Do you want to be in the club slam? Is there blame to assign? Do you particularly dislike any of the bids, or is it just a "stuff happens" hand?

Whatever, I wouldn't worry much about not being in slam, but I guess it's better than 50 % on the bidding.

That said, I think north should pass 4S to indicate slam interest, his hand is quite good. If south ahd Kx of diamonds slam would be very good. North has clear slam interest and never showed it; he would bid the same with a king less.

Do you mean you would pass and pull a double to show slam interest, and if partner bids 5m on his own, you would bid on?

What would 4NT show on this auction? If it's generic slam interest, is it stronger or weaker than the above?

I would play 4N as keycard (I love keycard!). A generic slam try can start with pass. This is also a good auction to play a direct 5C showing slam interest, with a hand with no slam interest that wants to bid passing and then pulling, so that partner does not get in your way when he doesn't X.

Ok, I felt bad about bidding 5 because of my controls and that the K of diamonds rated to be onside. I did it despite that, because I felt I was a bit minimum for my bids and wanted to show that. Lesson to take away is that 3 controls, a better than 50% king onside, and a stiff opposite and A in their suit is rarely "minimum".

On the plus side the king was off-side. :)
