What do you open?

Since to play 2C as GF and 1 of suit as "up to 20" you must have an opening bid to deal with Acol 2 types you could try opening that! :) It seems to me that your definitions are wrong. 1 of a suit must be 12 to "just less than GF" and thus 1C stands out. If you really want to keep your 1 of suit openings limited to 20 then you should probably consider incorporating a reverse Benji style 2D opening. It is probably better to just go with the mainstream though and change your definitions.

You don't mention any restrictions on your 2NT opening, does that mean you open any hand with 21-23HCP with 2NT? In that case, you have your (poor) systemic 2NT opening, wtp?

If 2NT is only (semi)balanced, I'd open 1 planning to reverse.

A semi-GF 2 (or 2) opening won't solve the problem since you don't have a rebid after having opened at the 2-level with this hand.

Maybe a Roman 2 opening could be generalized to cover hands like this one.

Otherwise you are stuck with 1 or 2NT. I usually open 2NT. But with 44(05), 1m can be just short of gf. And sometimes I will open at the 1-level with gf hands. Opening all gf hands at the 2-level probably requires you to put some of the gf hands into the 2 opening.

With 13 of the 21 HCP in the red suits, opening 1-club and JS to 2S doesn't feel very good, but opening 2NT doesn't feel that great either. Will go for the size and shape thing, and try 1C then 2S. Maybe CHO won't respond a red suit.

Even though a 1S rebid is forcing for me unless pard has scraped up a 4-5 count response, I won't try it this time.

You play 12-20 1-level openings, 21-23 2NT and FG 2, how do you deal with this, second seat, red vs white, teams:

KJxx AKQ A ATxxx

2N = 10, _P = 9. (Playing 2/1 you probably open 1. Given Hanoi's understandings, however, you open a systemic 2N).

1 for me too.

I don't hate 2nt but prefer a suit that looks more like tricks for it, ie a card or 2 in it. If pard has the communication stinks and if the opps have so does notrump.

As for playing there I've never had that happen with a singleton in a higher ranking suit than my bid and will ignore that until it happens.

1 100%. Planning to rebid GF 2 over 1 or 1. I always respond with a sensible 5 count, occasionaly with exceptional 4, so we will not be missing game very often. And if p has a response we are much better placed than when he opens 2NT. I dont have problems opening NT off shape, but I do not see the gain in this situation.
