Hanoi5
1♠ is probably better. Then spades and spades.
chasetb
1♠ is probably best. Then spades and spades.FYP You have 2 Aces and 10 HCP and a suit you can bid 3 times if needed. I will bid 1♠ 100% of the time.
mtvesuvius
1♠ for me as well. Even if it were my style to open this type of hand with 3♠, I would still be tempted not to: 7-2-2-2, bad spots, scattered values and lots of defense. So many reasons not to. Rossoneri
I'm in the 1♠ camp as well.
the hog
I am also in the 1S camp. This is FAR too good for 2S.

Phil
You can make a sensible argument for Pass, 1♠ and 2♠. A lot of it depends on style and preempting philosophy. I'd open it 2♠, but I don't hate 1♠. I don't generally open a weak 2 with two bullets, much less a 7 card suit, but: - We are r/w so a 7 card suit isn't too much of a surprise- 7222 sucks- Our suit has poor texture If you give me just a little more like the ♠9, or a 7321, then I'd open it 1. If you take away my ♠J, I'd pass. So I think I'd score it: 2♠ - 101♠ - 9Pass - 73♠ - 1 (I hope Cherdano doesn't think I'm acting like pseudo expert because I'm making all these value calls based on rearranging Jacks and adding 9's :P)
jonottawa
3♠ for me. 2nd choice pass. (In fact, I'd turn Phil's scoring upside down.)
nigel_k
Prefer 1♠ but don't mind 3♠. I can understand 2♠ though for me it's clearly too good for that. I wouldn't ever consider passing.
Cyberyeti
1♠, I never open 2 or 3 with 2 aces in 1st or 2nd.

whereagles
Obvious 1♠. You have the top suit and easy bids and rebids. No need to spread randomness.
Phil
Obvious 1♠. You have the top suit and easy bids and rebids. No need to spread randomness. So the daily wisdom is: "(Don't) Practice kind acts of randomness"? :)

jogs
2♠ for me. Rainer Herrmann I held a similar hand 7=2=2=2 and opened 2♠. The auction went 2♠ - X - 3♠ - 4♥4♠ - X - all pass 4♠X making. LHO asked,"thought the preemptor wasn't allowed to bid again?"

aguahombre
That Jx isn't worth much as useful HCP so the question really iswhat do you open with AJxxxxxxAxxxxxLet's forget too many x's in the spade suit giving us 14 cards; the question has merit. I vote for the same 1S opening. Same LTC, and for offense, there is usually something wasted in one hand or the other. That doesn't mean I am right, I just dislike pass..or a preempt with the wrong suit quality for 3S, the wrong length for 2S, and the outside bullet. gnasher
That Jx isn't worth much as useful HCP so the question really iswhat do you open with AJxxxxxxAxxxxxThe Jx may well be useful in defence. The more defence we have, the more inclined we should be to open at the one level, so I don't think you should disregard it.
