Abuse not responding.

Recommended Posts

Mssrs. BBO Director/Admin. Officer,

The XXXXXXX, is biased, and he is turning a deaf ear to complaints & blaming BBO software. He seems to treat the rules of BBO just for granted as per conversation nor he has etiquettes to welcome a substitute player. He think hinself to be a god of BBO.

Necessary action against him, with removal as a TD/Hosts.

A list is being attached about the nature of abuses, which have become frequent on BBO.

This Sadist & discriminatory attitude must be discouraged immediately, as it is amounting to disgracing of BBO's reputation.

It appears a certain group of individual are working as Mafia, occupying the BBO set up. Timely intervention please.

Thank you,

Dr.Qutubuddin MD

Neuro-Surgeon.

NB: The abuse@bridgebase.com is not responding in a timely manner nor I am getting Validatation email.

[edited by inquiry to remove name of host, as it is a violation of the forum rules]

Welcome to the Forums, Rabbit.

The Abuse Department has a strict Privacy Policy, so you will not be announced of the actions taken or about the outcome of your complaint. You just have to trust us that Abuse reviews all complaints and takes the necessary measures when it's the case.

On the other hand, as far as free tournaments are concerned we generally let the principle of free market apply. Also, the TDs in these tournaments are volunteers. They offer their time and efforts to provide free tourneys for other BBO members. The tournaments are usually big and the directors are very busy, so errors can occur often ( such as booting players by mistake, subbing too quickly etc. ).

In the future it would be a good idea to not post abuse complaints here, as the Forumers cannot help you with that anyway.

Legend has it that this is also specifically against the BBO Forums' Terms of Service, although I cannot find the TOS to quote them.

Rabbit, welcome to BBO Forum. I am an admistrator here, and I edited the name of the tourney host you are unhappy about out of your post. I did so not because the host is innocent (or guilty), for I know nothing about him. The rules of the forum do not allow any post that attack players/directors/etc by name, as yours did. The proper action in cases like yours is to write to abuse, as you apparently did.

Now apparently you have written abuse and not heard a reply. There is a reason for that. Whatever action (if any) abuse takes against anyone on the BBO is never shared with others. Even I, and I am a yellow, am not privy to what abuse does. We can sometimes figure out what happens, if you complain about a player and all of a dudden they never play anyomre you might draw one conclusion. If they disappear for a week or a month then return you might draw another. Neither conclusion might be right. You might conclude that the player who never returns was banned, but it might just be he changed his log in name, or sadly, he may have died in the real world or given up bridge (which is about the same thing in my mind). The player who doesn't log in for a week or a month might have had his account suspended, or might have gone on vacation, or whatever.

In a lot of cases, abuse will issue warnings and give instructions on what proper behavior on the site is. If more complaints come in or if the action warned against continues, then options include suspension to banning. Let's be clear, however, since BBO does not require postive identification of any player, a ban is not the worlds best solution and is frequenlty circumvented. Of course, a ban on being at TD host is 100% effective when it is implemented.

So don't be discouraged that you didn't get a response from abuse. No one gets much of a response. But there is one problem you might be having. When you write to abuse, the email program generates an automatic response. You have to respond to that automatic reply or your original email will never get to abuse. The need for this is because abuse's email address is published on the web and abuse gets 1000's of spam messages. When the automatic reply comes to the original sender, a lot of email systems automatically put that autoreply into the junk folder and the sender never sees it. If that happens, no communication occured between the sender and abuse. If you never "got" and replied to the automatic reply sent by bridgebase system, then abuse never got your email.

Legend has it that this is also specifically against the BBO Forums' Terms of Service, although I cannot find the TOS to quote them.

What you are looking to quote is the first item from the Term of Service, which states.

1. You will not engage in conduct or post any material that is defamatory, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of ANY law. Doing any of these is a good way to find yourself barred from the forums. The board should never go above PG-rated for any reason.

It is surprizing you can't find the TOS as it is, and always has been, pinned in the "general bridge discussion" forum. It is the first post on the forum I believe and dates back to Feb 13, 2003. It was written by skrshawk, the original adminstrator of these forums, and has been enforced since the beginning of the forum. Today, I have inserted three modifications to these rules. The first, deals with the problem of posting a bunch of hands to highlight some unknown person is cheating on the BBO. The second is to formalize the idea that annoying content like long strings of hearts will not be allowed. The final is to recongize the foreign language forums and that, obviously, english is not the official language in those (skrshawk realized that exception might be coming even in 2003).

Sorry; I looked in the BBO Forum, since it's a BBO-specific thing. Then I searched for "terms" and "service", but since there hadn't been an update in 8 years... Maybe a link could be put in the banner next to Forums, Members and Calendar, or someplace else that is outside of the actual forums?
