Hanoi5
Both red, imp pairs ♠Kx♥AKxxx♦Qxx♣QJx Pa-2♦*(multi)-??? Say you take 2♦ as a 2♥ opening bid. So you Pass. Pa-2♦*-Pa-3♥**(pass or correct)Pa-3♠-???
semeai
If you take it as a 2♥ opening, what does double mean and what does 2♥ mean? One's takeout of hearts I suppose. What's the other? I'm not passing 2♦. I'll either use the one of double/2♥ that isn't takeout of hearts if it's appropriate for my hand or, if not, bid 2NT. Cyberyeti
We've taken to using a simpler system over the multi than most people and would just overcall 2♥ nat on this or a 15-17 2N. Once in a very blue moon RHO has hearts or a big hand, but in reality he has a weak 2 in spades. Pass is bad for the sort of reason shown by the decision you have now. What were you going to do over 2♦-2♥-2♠ ?
Free
I also like to play like this is a 2♥ opening. However, I always keep (2♦)-2♥ natural, so that you don't have to force to 3-level or higher but you are able to describe your hand early (when opps open 2♠ natural, you don't have that luxury). Here you can bid 2♥ or 2NT if you feel lucky, but I wouldn't pass 2♦!
TWO4BRIDGE
Both red, imp pairs ♠Kx♥AKxxx♦Qxx♣QJx I like the Multi-defenses that start with a DBL = opening values with 5+ cards in one of the Majors: p - ( 2D! ) - X - ( 3H! )p - ( 3S ) - p - ( p )??Now partner knows your Major is Hts with no extras and can go from here. MrAce
I would not pass, that i am sure. 2NT or 2♥. I'd probably go with 2♥ 2NT can miss ♥ fit true, but the guy on lead vs 2 or 3 NT can misguess his pd's major also. If i had better cards in ♠, despite my 5 card ♥ i would go for 2 NT. Still close decision, at least for me.
tolvyrj
IMO 2♥ as a natural bid is fine here, we play such a structure that 13+ hcp. hands always bid something over multi so that we dont get run over when advancer bid 3 level pass or correct bid.2Nt 15-18 bal. and via dbl rest of the hands unsuitable for natural bid for 17+ hcp. non bal.hands or 13-14 bal. hands. gwnn
If you take 2♦ as a 2♥ bid I think the theory is to double spades next round if you have a goodish hand with hearts. I think we should do just that now.
manudude03
For what it's worth, I hate defences which revolve around 1 suit (I'd go as far as saying I'd rather play stolen bid doubles....). You really need to be able to show a natural suit in their "presumed" suit or else this kind of problem arises all the time. Anyway, we have to get past this hand, I double. Zelandakh
I like the Multi-defenses that start with a DBL = opening values with 5+ cards in one of the Majors: Multi vs multi is surprisingly effective but suffers from a much higher memory load than most players are willing to take on for an occasional opponent. rhm
I play double of 2♦ shows either a takeout double against a weak two in ♠or a strong hand. (With a takeout double against a weak two in ♥ we pass first and reopen later unless responder shows a strong hand. If responder preempts past the 3 level you know he must have spades too) So I would double with this hand. A 2♥ over-call tends to show a slightly better suit.
