helene_t
Matchpoints, w/w, weak field. P is a good player but I am often struggling to understand the logic of his bidding decisions and he doesn't understand mine either. P deals and passes(he had a weak two in diamonds available), RHO opens 1♠. pass-(1♠)-p-(p)2♦-(3♠)-? K8xxxxKQxxAQx
Hanoi5
I'm between Pass and 3NT. I'll choose the game, it looks more interesting.
ArtK78
I can see 3NT being either cold or having zero play. But I don't see what choice you have. If 5♦ makes, it is likely (but not certain) that 3NT will also make.
Phil
I'm between 3N and 3N and can't choose which. Tough problem!
VM1973
I'm all for penalty doubles, but not when I have a fit for my partner. I'll try 3NT. You should be able to take 6 diamonds, a spade, and a club for 8... then we'll cast around for more. Maybe you have to try the club hook. If you're down, you'll have company even if it's only 5♦ down.

Perhaps partner has what he considers to be a flawed 2♦ opener. For example♠ xx ♥ KJxx ♦AJxxxxxx ♣- : Four-card major♠ Ax ♥ KQx ♦ Jxxxxx ♣ xx : Grotty suit. ♠ Ax ♥ xxx ♦ AJxxxx ♣ xx: Two aces. ahydra
I'm with those bidding 3NT. With ♠K and ♣AQ sitting over the (rather enthusiastic) opening bidder, we've 8 tricks virtually guaranteed and partner should have the 9th as his hand should have more than just AJxxx diamonds. ahydra
mycroft
I, too, expect partner to have either a flawed weak 2 (4 hearts, likely, or too much defence/not enough strength in diamonds - given you have KQ, J sixth seems likely) or the kind of 2353 or 1354 that doesn't want to double for some reason (not so likely, but there are more hands that would do that if opener hadn't "preempted"). Let's hope that LHO has a spade to lead and isn't forced to find the heart lead through partner.
daveharty
Count me in for 3NT, but I really hope mycroft is wrong about partner's likely diamond holding, because then 3NT could get very ugly if LHO has a spade to lead. A tougher question for me is, do I run to diamonds if RHO doubles?
jdeegan
:P 4♦ :P expecting to make or go down one (maybe 2 undoubled). I have too many diamonds and not enough spade spots to defend, and our side is too light on high cards for 3NT (which might make) to make sense at matchpoints.
