I believe something needs to be done to top the abuse and bad manners displayed by some members. I would like to see BBO introduce a 3rd bridge club.

In order to play in this club the member would have to have a credit account/deposit of a minimum of, say, $10.00.

If found guilty of abuse or deliberately leaving the table during a hand a player would be subject to a penalty deduction of between $2 and $10 for a first offence, increasing for subsequent offences. Persistent offenders would have the deposit increased, to cover potential larger fines, until it might be found necessary to ban them.

When applying to join a table the system would check the existence of the credit and request confirmation from the player that these conditions are acceptable.

Although I think it is a great pity, I believe it is necessary to introduce something of this nature.

Payers who don't want to open the account or are happy to play with the small minority could continue to play in the Main bridge club, while those who would like to play the game in the proper spirit may do so in the new club.

I, unfortunately, have marked far too many members as enemies and it is only for abuse or for leaving the table mid hand without an apology, leaving BBO or joining a tournament.

When I am about to leave a table I always try to send a chat, as do most I have played with, at the beginning of a hand "last for me. thx" or something to that effect.

An interesting idea, but I doubt it will happen. I'm also not sure it would be good for it to happen.

 

I wonder if there's anything in slight censoring? What if nobody were allowed to send a chat message with more than one ? in a row?

and not some other watered down version of the game.

Why would the usual subjects sign up? Oh yeah, the ones that text to a survey at $1 a pop to say "I don't know".

We can no longer chat to club, so i stopped playing at the private clubs, i used to enjoy the wp refugee.

Now i discovered you can no longer loiter at the tournament area, so you cant chat before the game begins.

i also find it sad that now. when we join a tournament, we are fisrt propmted in case "you already have a partner" and the partnership desk is actually hidden.

there is no lobby anymore, where in the world am i supposed to find a partner?

 

it's actually been a long time since i added a friend at bbo, i just play randomly, mark a few of the better ones and people just disappear after a few weeks.

I don't like the web version at all. I only use it for PB (because it has GIBs for competitive bidding), otherwise I always use the stand alone version.

Probably there is no solution. In my teenage years there were four of us who would regularly get together for a game of Hearts. Chuck usually lost. In frustration he once blurted out "I just have terrible luck. You guys know I am better than you are, I just never win." I think that this sharp over-estimation of ability is at the heart of much of the rudeness.

 

Maybe something like the following: If a guy regularly leaves a table abruptly, sentence him to playing fifteen hands with three people, rotating partners every five hands, then totaling the scores. When he comes in last, it's possible that he might (I won't hold my breath) realize the fault is not with our partners but with ourselves.

 

Or you could have him write one hundred times on a blackboard "The skills that I can most directly improve upon are my own".

There is merit in this article--- and FG should answer or help...

 

Firstly,if one is playing,and ones server dissconects,or the site

has a hiccup and one is disconnected- somewhat difficult

to differntiate.........

 

Secondly--BBo could decide what to do with the fine Monies,

a charity,or some form of youth sponsorship...

 

Complete and utter waste of time reporting abuse,no outcome

nothing--support does nothing also,in fact today,i was verbally

accused of "Cheating" when i called the TD.nothing happened,

but i had the gentlemans name and replied in chat,that i would

report him fior verbal abuse........ his immediate reply

typed in the chat was "F*ck off".i made a movie,

so will report.but i assume with no avail.

I support the writer of this article --I want something done.

I find it easier to just blacklist them and write a small note next to their account why i blacklisted them. Much easier and more satisfactory than writing it to abuse or any other place. Even if BBO takes an action and lets say ban them, they will create a new account and come back.

 

At first it seemed that this will never end and i will keep on doing this blacklist, but i can confidently say that everyday i open a new table, and people ring the bell to join as a player, i see at least 3-4 of my blacklisted and immediately reject. It works in long run. Also the good part is when they are rejected by u once, they rarely request a game again in the future.

 

Here is a hint how to avoid that kinda players.

 

When u open a table make sure "permission is required to join as a player" box is checked. And try to be selective with whom you play with or against, those with no names and no nothing in their cards are more likely to have bad behavious than those with their names. I try to play vs Advanced and Expert players, those who has a number on their cards shows they play tourneys and ran their credit/debit card to add BBO $, which is usually a sign of players who actually comitted to BBO with their current nick. They worked hard to get their number up and paid money, they will be much more careful in order to not recieve a punishment from BBO.

 

Also, a player without a number doesnt mean they are bad players or behaving badly, make sure to also make a positive note next to these type of players so u would know next time that they are OK to play with. None of these are perfet cure to avoid the types we dont want, but it really helps the reduce the % od encounter.

Actually if you use the web version, the people on your blacklist cant invite you or request permission to join your table at all. The software automatically rejects their attempts.

I (accidentally) registered for an ACBL Indy earlier. Most were well behaved, but there were a few unsolicited lessons given over the 12 boards. One in particular was rather insistent about her partner's bidding mistakes.

 

I didn't see the point to mention that she gift-wrapped two contracts for me.

Oh, I think that such a lovely person who is so willing to try to help others with their bridge would greatly appreciate some input from another player, as I am sure would their partner.

Reminds me of a story. We were playing Swiss and after a couple of good rounds we came up against what could be called one of the better teams. Robinson/Boyd at our table, some similar pair at the other. We got beat. One of our teammates was upset but to sooth her I mentioned the world class status of our opponents. Her response: Oh, maybe that's why he looked at me sort of funny when I told him how he should have played the hand.
