Agreements:

-1NT overcall is natural (not sandwich)

-2 bid is natural

Scoring : IMP pairs

Partner : Expert

What would you choose to do and why ?

Thanks all for the replies ! :)

1NT is right on strength, stoppers, and protects my Kings.

I'd prefer a third heart or better yet a double stoppr, but life ain't perfect.

I'd bid 1NT without agony -- the prospect of developing tricks is reasonable and partner likely has some s if we are left here, and passing isn't my style. I don't mean that as patronizing, just that if I passed I'd be at sea later. Also, if partner has a long minor we want to have bid.

Bidding 2 with only five isn't tempting at all.

Are you suggesting this action versus 3NT or other strains?.

What if they stop in 1NT?, or 2, possibly even 2 minor?

If they stop in

- 1NT: dbl, yes.

- 2x: either pass or 2 (natural), depending on how confident opps look.

- 3NT: don't think they will bid so high, but dbl still.

I would bid 1nt.

X is out of the question.2 kind of needs the 6th .

Pass can be good depending if pd is broke or not but I smell the 1 bid might have and psyched the .

If that is 2 is far superior but I cant do a generic bid on a hunch

I think this depends on what your system allows your partner to do.

If you bid 1N, can and will partner put you in 3 of a minor with

or minors reversed?

Even better would be if partner could put you in 2 of a minor.

At the table, i decided to pass.

First of all i have to mention that with this first time expert pd, i did not know how he was playing 1 NT (but in OP i gave it to you guys as if u have one), he would probably take it natural had i bid it and he confirmed this after the hand. I normally almost always bid 1 NT, but this particular hand and the vulnerability and lack of agreement led me to pass.

-I could pass and miss a game or a nice partscore

-I could get dbled and bail out some numbers when they can only make partscore at most.

Of course pd had :D

So you still would get to 3NT. What is the problem?

First pair to bid 1NT gets to play it. 1NT.

The argument of opps being unlimited is pretty flawed imo. If you play 1NT natural in this situation, you accept that fact and deal with it when it comes up. What do you need for a natural 1NT then? 18-20HCP?
