I seem to remember a tale of some guy who shipped himself in a box because it was cheaper than paying for a seat on the flight. Turned out that's illegal. Who knew?

It became illegal in 1900 or so when some guy bought a house in New England, broke it down to the bricks and mailed it to himself in California to be re-assembled. The resulting legislation cut out all the fun stuff too.

On a side note, a Texas oil man was doing business in Alberrta and dropped dead. He was 6'8" and they didn't have a coffin big enough. What to do? They gave him an enema and shipped him home in a shoe box.

Inside the package, Waldo was so transfixed with excitement that he could barely breathe. His skin felt prickly from the heat, and he could feel his heart beating in his throat. It would be soon. Sheila stood quite upright and walked around to the other side of the package. Then she sank down to her knees, grasped the cutter by both handles, took a deep breath, and plunged the long blade through the middle of the package, through the masking tape, through the cardboard, through the cushioning and (thud) right through the center of Waldo Jeffers' head, which split slightly and caused little rhythmic arcs of red to pulsate gently in the morning sun.

+1 for the VU reference

Don't know the reference, but it reminds me of Roald Dahl or maybe Saki

Lou Reed, actually. It's a portion of a short story he wrote as a college student, and later read by John Cale on the Velvet Underground track "The Gift".

There was a Russian guy that did this and was locked in a warehouse for 5 weeks due to a postal strike.

Anyone arriving late Thursday night, and interested in sharing a taxi?

So you know (in case you don't...I didn't until I got here today) the bus from the airport to hotels is relatively cheap (I think for 2 people it's still cheaper than splitting a taxi) and comfortable. I'd recommend it.

There is a shuttle to the Sheraton (and I think Royal York) -- It's like $22 a person I believe, and runs every half hour or so.

Also, for people arriving soon, be prepared for very hot weather. It is supposed to be 37 or 38 Celsius tomorrow, with a humidex of 46 which makes if feel like 116 F.

Yea, I saw that, but I'm not staying at one of those places. The connection will go to my hotel, the last one is 10:25, and I am scheduled to arrive at 9:35, and I am worried that if my flight is delayed, and/or there's an issue with customs or luggage, I will miss it.

Wish I could be there, but I could not get off work. I made it to Louisville, which was only about a 3 hour drive for me and I had plans for Toronto. I used to live in the Detroit area and would go to Toronto on the train from Windsor. The train station was (and probably still is) right by the Royal York.

Oh well, next year Memphis is relatively close and I used to work in Philly, so I know where to stay affordably there.

Well I hope everyone enjoyed their visits to Toronto. I finally got to meet a few of you (Fred, Justin and Adam) in person for the first time. My partner and I made it through qualifiers for the LMP and my team made it all the way to the quarter-finals of the Mini-Spin before getting knocked out. In that last match we only lost by 5 and my partner turned ill over the dinner break. I'm sure if that hadn't happened we'd have at least gotten past that match (tossing your cookies and playing bridge don't mix well).
