GIB is getting worse?

I am currently still playing BBO on the old downloaded client, not the web version.

Is my GIB the same version as the ones on the web version? I ask because I know that GIB was recently upgraded on to become faster.

It does feel like it plays faster, but the problem is that it also feels like GIB's play has gotten significantly worse. Perhaps I exaggerate, but I bid a lot of thin slams as part of my robot race strategy, and it's frustrating to watch GIB butcher contracts when different lines of play are available. Sometimes it just makes mistakes in the play.

Pretender, we did mean upgrade when we said upgrade. It runs much faster because we increased the resources allocated to GIB, not because it's gotten worse.

The other upgrades were the bugfix and logic improvement patches that have been released this year - 3 so far I think, with a 4th one coming out and it's still just July.

I may be the staff who plays the most robot tourneys, and I certainly don't see any decrease in GIB's performance recently. More likely that you improved a lot and can now spot bad lines faster?

Also -Barmar is right as usual about the same GIB being used in old or new BBO version in tourneys.

Ha, no, my bridge actually used to be a lot better. And playing with robots is no way to improve one's bridge IMO.

I have hand records of my tournaments, with hands where GIB takes inferior lines.

But more importantly, I have at least one hand where GIB made a blatant mistake (both single and double dummy). Here is what one looked like: [hv=pc=n&s=st87hdak53caq8732&w=sqjh975dj762ckt54&n=sak6432hkt843d8c9&e=s95haqj62dqt94cj6&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp1s2h6sppp&p=s5stsjsac9cjcqckc5h4c6c8s8sqsks9h3h2s7h5cac4d8dtdad7h8d9dkd2htd4c7cts6h6hkhad5h9dqd3djs3s4hjc2h7s2hqc3]399|300[/hv]

note trick 6 where GIB discards his diamond entry instead of setting up the club and getting back with the diamond.

GIB does stuff like this to me all the time, and I'm in a lot more slams than most players so it really hurts.

I accept that GIB will make one or two tricks less than I will. It is the bidding that frustrates me so much. It doesn't matter how well you play the cards when you are in the wrong contract.

In one session tonight I made 3 good bids that GIb with no reason bid on and good boards became zeros.

I made a competitive 3H bid and GIB decided to go down 4 in 3NT

I made a good 4 heart bid with 4-4 in hearts and GIB decided that down one in 5C on 5-3 fit was better.

He bid twice with a hand without enough strength to bid once.I can make my bid but he can't make his.

That is 25% of the boards in one session.

lol, this play is really bad. Anyway, for a good declarer, the correct strategy is to adjust your bidding and make yourself declare most contracts. BBO is really hopeless at fixing some very simple problems like offering an option to declare when in dummy and replacing a disconnected player with a gib.

Spade play is not that strange- its a deep finesse leaving the other finessing option open.

Really the bad play is not winning in dummy and leading up to the diamonds and then not finessing in hearts (less honours missing so its a better chance) so you can lead up to diamonds again and try to guess those. Given GIB is near a max with some intermediaries, bidding 2 over 1NT is silly.
