Could be that, could also be a hand with ♦/♥/♠ that didn't feel like doubling last round.

Take-out of clubs. I think it's quite likely to have spade length, which is why you didn't act on the previous round, e.g. a 4=3=4=2 shape.

I didn't feel like bidding 1NT the round before because it was matchpoints and we were vulnerable. As you see Frances' guess was quite close to my actual shape. :)

I think this double should be something like "penalty of spades, takeout of clubs". 2♠ should be natural by N if he bids it (of course, he shouldn't bid it on this hand).

Yup. North is marked with a few values after 2♣ gets passed around. South gernerally has a take out with warts and too much to give up easily.

 

Her we call it a transfer of responsibility double.

For those who use 1NT in the sandwich position as other than natural, this second-round double might be useful for the actual hand type held; and in the given case, it doesn't seem to have mattered whether South bid 1NT the first time around or not. The same end result would have occurred.

 

But, it doesn't seem right to have two actions show the same thing. Undoubtedly this is why North was unsure when it came up. It seems to be more dangerous to come into a potentially misfit auction after both opponents have given and received information than earlier.

Definitely takeout, and because you didn't Dbl the previous round it suggests long ♠s. RHO may be a joker or he may have a ridiculous suit, but we'll find our fit if we have one.
