han
I don't consider pass and 3C serious alternatives.

All serious alternatives at this vulnerability.(I misclicked "Pass" on the poll).[/hv]
whereagles
3♣ seems like a bit of a gamble. Prefer a simple 1♣. Pass may work but it's also a gamble.. you can have a game opposite some well-placed cards.
Mbodell
I think pass is probably better if you are playing a strong club system with light openings, as there partner's distributions for pass will be lighter then in standard. But opposite a standard strength pass, I think I'd bid. Interesting that it is currently running 4:1 in favor of bidding in the forums, but I bet pass is much more popular in standard duplicate pairs, since this has only 13 (points + spades). Siegmund
I don't think 3C is a serious alternative -- this is at least a full trick short of what my fourth seat 3-bids look like -- but am surprised there is so much hate for pass (which I voted for, and actually expected to see winning the poll.) Bbradley62
In our pairs tournament, 8 Souths faced this decision. I passed and the other 7 all opened 1♣. I was surprised by the unanimity.
