Hanoi5
[hv=d=e&v=n&b=2&a=pp1sd2d]133|100[/hv] What do you play 2♦ as? Does it change if you weren't a passed hand?
semeai
It's standard (e.g. BWS 2001) to play this as non-forcing. In comparison, the standard for new suits at the 1-level is to have them be forcing. Another common treatment is to play transfers here, starting at 1NT, but this is certainly not standard or what you would guess with a pickup partner if that's why you're asking; whether it's common enough to be "mainstream" I do not know. That is, 1NT transfers to clubs, 2C to diamonds, 2D to hearts, and 2H would be a good raise to 2S.
han
I play transfers as described by semeai.
Siegmund
I would describe natural and nonforcing as mainstream, whether a passed hand or not, and transfers as the only serious contender, not mainstream but quite a lot has been written about them and they are in use by a number of expert pairs. Phil
Votes up transfers.
BunnyGo
For those who play transfers, when are they "on"? Over opponents doubles of our opening bids?
Siegmund
There are people who'd argue for using them much more extensively than that (search for 'transfer Walsh' for one application of the idea, and transfer responses to natural 2-level openers in systems like An Unassuming Club for another.) But ACBL rules being what they are, for a lot of us they are only legal over a 1-level opening bid if our opponents use a convention against us. Takeout doubles are far and away the most common convention used by the opps against us after we open... so the posted auction is the only common situation where they are allowed in GCC events. Free
I play transfers from RDbl and up. Since it's 2♦ it doesn't make a difference to the approach played by Han and semeai and the upvoters. ;)
