mtvesuvius Posted June 16, 2011 Report Share Posted June 16, 2011 I'd pass -- Partner rates to have a bunch of values in spades, and we are probably off at least two round suit losers. There will be a lot of handling troubles in 5♦, and I don't think it rates to make that often. The stiff Ace is a terrible holding, especially since transportation looks to be very shaky. If partner holds something like QTxxxx x AQxx Ax then I probably won't be thrilled with my decision, but 5♦ is still nowhere near cold on a heart tap. pooltuna Posted June 16, 2011 Report Share Posted June 16, 2011 I would try 4♠ rather than 3NT. Partner rebid ♠ rather than 2♦ over 1NT so I expect his 6 card suit to have quality cards. IMO...So far, the auctiion seems OK.Now 3♠ = 10, 4♠ = 9, 4♦ = 8, 5♦ = 7, _P = 2.You should give partner a choice of ♠ or ♦ . 4♠ is a trick less than 5♦ :)Its close whether you should force to game or give partner the chance to stop in 3♠ or 4♦.It depends on opening-bid understandings. han Posted June 17, 2011 Report Share Posted June 17, 2011 I would bid 4S. In my style it is uncommon for partner to bid 2S holding 6 spades and 4 diamonds. I'd expect partner to have KQJxxx of spades, and less than AQxx in diamonds. There are quite a few possible hands where 4S is quite good, especially when partner holds a doubleton club. If you think pass is best, isn't 4D then clearly better than 5D? Not only is it in between 3D and 5D, it also makes it possible to get back to spades.
