Team Game Substitutions

Recommended Posts

I would like to see where one can request to substitute for a team game and do it by level. In the windows version, to be a substitute, you would need to go to a particular match/table and without joining that table, you would be given a choice to hit the "substitute" button but only for that table.

In the web version, that is not available, rather you get this from the help pages?

Still, there are times when a team match you are kibitzing will have a player that disconnects. This is a good time for you to let the table know that you are available to sub for the disconnected player. If the table has been set up to allow chat from kibitzers, you will often find that the owner of the table will welcome your volunteering to sub.

As one who plays plenty of team matches, probably one of now most popular things to do on BBO, I also create and direct some and one of the most frustrating things in directing teams is getting subs who are the same level as the play requested at the TM. It is also tactless to kick someone off a table who is subbing but whose profile says novice or intermediate when the table is advanced or expert.

What I would suggest is the following:

  •
  • When you choose teams from the menu, you do not get sent to a blank page because the default tab is the pending tables. I would assume 99% of the players choosing teams do so to see what teams games are in progress, not ones pending which there are usually ZERO!
  • A tab or box and especially on the web version, that when you choose teams and come to that "blank page" which has the pending or in play tabs, you have a tab saying "register as a substitute".
  • Once you choose this it is asks your "preferred level" according to your profile. Hopefully we would not have those who choose to not list their level and have private instead

The Team Setter has the power to put in a Substitution Manually so one possible way is to inform the person who is down as the setter

In the web version one can register as a sub by clicking the Substitutes button in List all tourneys. That will add the name to the list of subs for any tourney, including team matches. It would be interesting to apply by skill level, but it is not possible on the current version.

The team match host (or any TD in any tourney) can access the list of all subs by opening the Director panel on the right. In the Action column select Substitution. Available subs are not listed by level, but you can click on each name to see their profile, then choose someone.

Thanks Diana, but this has to be changed. "In the web version one can register as a sub by clicking the Substitutes button in List all tourneys. That will add the name to the list of subs for any tourney, including team matches."

Whomever programmed it this way made some assumption that we have mensa powers or are psychic or both and know that something posted to tournaments also applies to team matches, although no where is that ever stipulated even in the help menu.

Yes, there's room for improvement. It was probably programmed that way because the new team match feature was not ready at the time.

Diana:

Yesterday brought me to another suggested change/improvement with the teams software. Do not get me wrong, I am sold on the web version now as it does have some great features for teams when directing the table. But, when asked to substitute, unlike the windows version I cannot get a view of the players at the other table. Yes I am told a sub is needed and most likely I can sub for a sitout, but I still want to see the other 3 players still seated. Yes I can look in hand history also, but all I am saying that there should be a way to see who is sitting at the other table.

thanks

Onedown

Open the Director panel on the right. In the Action column choose "Show tables". You can see both tables that way.

This article has a very detailed explanation of alternative ways to fill in the sitouts on the web version until people learn how to join the team matches created this way.
