MP, What would you bid and please tell why. (Standart methods, assume u play with a p/u pd, i am not asking pdship agreements)

Thanks

2.

On which I will hear to all probablity: 2

Partner show a hand with 5s (at least), less than 3s and not stong enough for a direct 2 bid (we do not play NFB); ie around 8H.

On this I will bid 2; hopefully he understands this is the end; only with Ax in spades, he could take further action.

What is the problem here? In standard methods, partner could have 5h+s if less than a good 10 HCP. Otherwise he makes a Free 2H call. So we assume 4 Hs and 8+ or 5+ Hs and less than a good 10 HCP.

Whatever way I do not want to miss a possible diamond slam and since I am void in Hs and a badly positioned AQx of clubs I am happy with 2 Diamonds and will see what comes.

I'd just bid 2, after the 2 overcall and the negative Dbl my hand isn't worth that much. If it's a misfit I want to stay low, and I have too many slow values to start jumping.

Pd had this hand.

Those who bid 2 would play it there for a % 80 score. those who bids 2 would peobably still play 2 but after this auction GIB gave them a better defense in 2

At the table i bid 3 and i am convinced with the explenations here that this was an ambitious choice. Pd raised to 4 but 3 was bad enough.

Thanks for the replies.

I came late to the party so I know both hands

KQJ832------KQJ832

void--------432

QJ84--------A2

AQ6---------A2

two opening hands roughly equivalent in HCP

you open both 1s and lho bids 2c and your p x then pass

to you what do you do next? the hand on the left seems

to have a ton of potential while the one on the right

seems much more pedestrian. One might be tempted to

bid 3s with left hand and a more conservative 2s with

the right hand and both would be wrong because p hand

is xx AKJx xxx xxxx and 3s is too high with left hand and

2s too small with right hand. Point is opps have 9

hearts and p manages to have 100% of their minimum tox

in your void. This wont happen often so dont let a small

% probability hand negatively influence your future thinking.

If this were IMPS I would bid 3d (because I do not fear 5d like

I do at MP)

At MP I am torn between 3s and 3c and would probably lean

toward 3s since I am not crazy about club Q (though it will

almost surely make defending the hand tougher) switch my hand to

KQJ832 void AJ84 A32 and I would bid 3c.

As an aside if playing SAYC and p bid 2h I would now have a tendency

to become more conservative because p heart length and concentration

of values swings much more toward being in hearts than it does after

a neg x (with opps maybe holding 9 hearts):))))
