worth a bid of 1sp....

what do you play at trick 2- ?

If south does not overcall 1 sp-would you get to slam????????

Am I missing something? This looks like no play slam.

And that double over 1 looks questionable at the least. More like atrocious. I might find myself from 6 after that double. It would be quite a good contract if partner actually held the cards he promised.

6H makes barring an unlikely trump lead, thanks to Q dropping doubleton and North holding the club length. It's a terrible contract though.

Edit: Just saw BunnyGo's post. Even if you did get a trump lead, you can then duck a club and make on a double squeeze.

Yup, the end position is something like:

[hv=pc=n&s=skqhdqjc&w=s87hdk6c&n=shd85cqj&e=sh9dtca9]399|300[/hv] E leads 9, S and W discard , N has to let go a , and now A squeezes S.

You certainly don't want to be in this one, I'd be in more danger of being in it unopposed as it might be difficult to distinguish from xxxxx, K10, Kxxx, Kx which will make trivially on normal breaks barring N having 2 clubs and Q on a non trump lead or a trump lead where the Q is single/double.

heart..... finessing, ruff spade, heart, ruff spade, pull last trump and duck a club. 3-3 clubs more likely than Qx of trumps, plus there are squeeze options (as the actual hand shows). By the way, if you want to post it as a declarer play problem, then just show 2 hands.

as south i felt this slam was a no goer-- opp at trick played 2

club and a club-then ruffed a club.diamond and a diamond -ruffed

a diamond ruffing spades for communication-my pard and I

powerless-a bit galling i was squeezed to death.

this hand gave us a near bottom which cost us being in top

12 with 400 competitors.reading some replies..

on reflection a lucky slam.
