Hanoi5
I'm short in HCP's for going to the 2-lvl and missing one honour (and maybe also a couple of HCP's) for the spade suit to be biddable at the one level. I'm sure these questions have a point, I wonder what it is...

Siegmund
There's a reason why I have a gadget for these 4-5s. :) In the absense of a toy, I try 1S with a partner who is unlikely to take offence to it, and pass with one who will. I am not happy with any of the 4 calls available in garden variety standard.

whereagles
I'd try my luck with 1♠.
nige1
IMO P = 10, 1♠ = 8, 2♣ = 4, X = 1To consider a 1♠ overcall on a four-card suit, I like to have at least ♠ KQTx
Free
I don't like overcalling with such hands, but we're favorable, have a passed partner, and it's 1♦-2♣ (one of Sabine's favorites). So yeah, I'll bid 2♣, but I'm not claiming it's good bridge.

ArtK78
Pass. I like overcalling 2♣ over 1♦ as much as anyone, but I would prefer a spade lead to a club lead, so why should I tell partner to lead a club?

jmcw
PASS not even tempted to a black suit.
AlexJonson
Clearly pass is sound. But I like two clubs, because it interferes to some extent with oppos bidding. With my concentration of values I am not bothered if partner gets excited with several clubs.
tolvyrj
I have read some books bout bidding, u know those with plenty of pictures :D . Pass comes first in my mind, but then again in Lawrences complete book of overcalls he recommeds bidding even with this kind of hands and since he is Mike Lawrence and im virtually nobody my vote goes to 1 ♠. 2200
Just another perfecto for Raptor 1NT.Here, it means one unspecified major plus longer other minor.
gnasher
Are you ever going to tell people what happened?I wasn't planning to. Do you think it's interesting? Oh alright then: partner had Axx QJ10xx xxx 9x. RHO was 3451 with ♣10. At Frances's table this hand overcalled 1♠, thereby ensuring that Frances and her partner didn't bid a 50% 24-point 3NT. At my table, I made a rather undisciplined 2♣ overcall, and went for 500. So compared with pass, a 1♠ overcall either gains 10 or breaks even, and a 2♣ overcall either gains 3 or loses 8. I don't think you can infer much from this single piece of data - I posted the hand because I wanted to know what other people would do, not because I thought there was anything special about the actual deal. What's (67.8 + 28.3 / 5) / 2 ? perhaps the diamond suit was A9x opposite KQ7xx(actually I don't remember the diamond pips below the 10 at all)
