Flash, and saving locally

Recommended Posts

One of the major disincentives for me using the Flash interface for BBO has, at least until now, been the inability to auto-save a history of hands and chat locally to my hard drive. Yes, I understand that you can save individual hands on the server but I see that as a second-rate alternative in terms of customer experience and I also believe that you have to choose to save each hand rather than an entire session, and it does not extend to chat history (I think - happy to be overridden).

Anyway, I had the impression that this was a consequence of security features built within Flash that could not be overridden.

However I don't know if there have been changes in this area in Flash. Certainly I periodically get prompts to upgrade my Flash installation, but until now I have not paid much attention to what these upgrades bring. Well I have just had a look at the window that opens to configure Flash in the Control Panel (activex version 10.3.181.14) and find that there is an option to select "Allow sites to save information on this computer". I cannot be certain that this option was missing in earlier versions, because I never took the trouble to look. But if this is indeed now an option, might BBO be now free to develop the Flash version so as to allow auto-saving locally as it does in the Windows client? That would put another nail in the coffin of the Windows client option.

Almost all normal hands played (ie, not teaching) recently are saved. This applies for tourneys, or for normal bridge club hands, total points or duplicate.

But only recent hands are treated like that. So yes, if you did have a particularly interesting hand and you play a lot, you would need to save it individually to make sure it'll be there for you.

However, you will also get access to it from different computers, rather than just 1 computer. Handviewer hands are also easier to share, since you can always "export as url" and then you get a tinyurl to share with anyone. I think these are powerful advantages for most people.

Chat saving is a problem.

Anyway let's make sure Fred sees this when he's back in a few days time. Thanks for the tip about flash :D

Hello

There isn't any chat saving in web version and also now unable to make the copy and paste in new version.:(

You can select the text you want by click and dragging over the text of interest. Then press Control-C to copy the text. Place your mouse where you want to paste it and press Control-v to paste it. This works in windows, I suspect there is something similar in Mac's, but I am not a mac person.

Also Ctrl-A in windows selects the entire chat. Windows users should know this, but maybe many do not.

Mac users just use Command key instead of Ctrl Key for the same functionality mentioned.
