awm
Presumably you have very standard agreements and are not playing any of the gadgets that would help in this auction. I'm going to try 3♣. This seems less likely than 2♠ to convince partner to hang me in a suit I don't really have. If partner bids 3NT I'm not passing.
gnasher
Funny: when partner responds in our short major, we have an easy rebid, but when we actually get some good news the hand becomes unbiddable.
JLOGIC
I seem to have 9+ tricks. I would open 2C and bid diamonds. Seems perfect!
Free
I guess we get one of these every few months, the responses are usually to fix your system (2♣/2♠/2NT artificial) or play strong ♣. :)
TWO4BRIDGE
Over a 1H response, can use the GGG ( Gnasher's Gameforce Gadget ):1D - 1H2S! - 2NT! ( asks )??3C! = (3om ) = 4s, no 3h, 5+d 3D! = long Diam, no 4s, no 3h 3H! = 3h, no 4s, 5+d 3S! = 4s AND 3h, 5+d
whereagles
I use to open these hands in the forcing way (strong club, diamond, polish, 2♣, etc) for the obvious reason of lack of convenient rebid.
helene_t
5♦. But we need some gadget for strong hands. Without special agreements I would have opened 2♣. While most people at the local club open 2♣ at least three times as often as I do, I am still a very frequent 2♣ opener by forum standards. Foxx
5♦. But we need some gadget for strong hands. Without special agreements I would have opened 2♣. While most people at the local club open 2♣ at least three times as often as I do, I am still a very frequent 2♣ opener by forum standards. I've got company! This was my choice too, but I didn't want to admit to it alone. At matchpoints, I would put more weight on getting to the major, and therefore one of 3♥, 4♥ or even 4♣(!) would be my bid. As for opening 2♣, you can make a good case for that to be sure, but in general sequences featuring a 2♣ opening and a 3♦ rebid blow all kinds of goat. Cyberyeti
We could open this either 2♣ or 1♦, we use a 2N rebid after 1♦-1♥ as GF unbalanced with a semi-forced 3♣ relay allowing me to bid 3♦ to show this hand.

helene_t
At matchpoints, I would put more weight on getting to the major, and therefore one of 3♥, 4♥ or even 4♣(!) would be my bid.If you want to raise hearts I think the best rebid is 4♦ which shows 4-card heart support and very good and long diamonds. Yeah a 2♣ opening followed by 3♦ usually creates havoc but I think partner knows that we know this and therefore he will know that we have an extreme hand when we do use it. Some people here play 2♣ followed by 3M as showing 6+ diamonds and 4M. (In the Netherlands some people put those hands in the Multi). This would mean that 2♣ followed by 3♦ denies four hearts, so we can bid 4♥ at our third turn.
ArtK78
I chose 3♣ as my least of evils bid. Hopefully I can recover later in the auction.
Cyberyeti
how wonderful you can show this exact hand. I will post other hand from bridge magazine after a few more comments.Well pretty close, I can show a good 6+ card diamond suit with 7.5-9 playing tricks, and if partner has more than 4 hearts and doesn't want to raise diamonds, he'll bid 3♥ over which I can bid 4♣ to show 3 hearts and a club control but no spade control, so I'm not in bad shape. The 3♦ bid is always one suited, so new suits after are unambiguous.

TWO4BRIDGE
Pards hand was: 753...QJ843....73....A32From my post #6 :1D - 1H2S! - 2NT! ( asks for clarification )3H! - 4Hpass where: 3H! = 3h, no 4s, 5+d and 2S! was ( may be artificial ) GF .- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Edit: I supposed Responder could make an advance cue of 4C for Hts as trump ( an obvious cue since there is no other reason to show Clubs at this point ),and it should be the Ace since Opener's bidding shows very few Cl; and at the same time the Cl-cue denies a Spade control. Again, 4H will be the final contract Edited May 2, 2011 by TWO4BRIDGE
Cyberyeti
Well our auction as described earlier goes 1♦-1♥-2N-3♣-3♦-3♥-4♣-4♥ We've pinpointed the spade lead which is not a disaster at IMPS, but not so good at MPs.
dake50
Can I 2S splinter, 6D next unless partner rebids 3H then 6H? A-ask for 6D, now or next?
