2 Hearts or negative double

Recommended Posts

To decide, ask yourself if you are worth two bids.

No? Then double over 2, and pass over 3 (assuming partner does not bid). This will show eight of your cards, as opposed to 2 then pass which will show only five.

Yes? Then bid 2 and double over 3 (assuming partner does not bid). This will show nine(eleven - if you count the probable tolerance for diamonds) of your cards, as opposed to doublng and doubling again, which will show only eight(ten).

If you bid 2, West should bid 2NT, because he has no extra values. If East has extra values, he will bid 3. If East does not have extra values but has four spades as well as his five hearts, he should have doubled the first time.

Would you bid 2 or negative double.

If you bid 2 should West bid 2 or 2NT or something else?

Opinions welcomed

Thank you

QJ seem to be of little value here.....

I would go for a X.

on partner's response:

2: 2 inviting

2; 3 inviting

2! 3 inviting

2NT: 3 forcing

2 is obvious. I have 5 hearts and 10+ pts, AND opener gets a chance to bid spades if they have them? Not worried about my QJ since partner is allowed to have cards in that suit too!

If spades and hearts were reversed I think it's a slightly better question since it's no longer as easy for opener to introduce the other major.

For all those that bid - let me ask you:

holding KQxx, KJxxx, x, Kxx you and RHO opened , you double or bid hearts?

The purpose is not to show 5 cards, the purpose is to find a fit and see if we can compete, in any suit.... especially holding both majors. So on this hand you have support for both, and effectively you have 10 HCP - seems an obvious X to me.
