Uploading tournament rules / lin files

Recommended Posts

I have td for addicts for about a year and have not had to upload a tournament rules. Now that the addicts are on vacation I would like to upload rules for tournaments which I create but can not. Any one got a step by step way to help me?

Are you using BBO Windows or BBO Web (Flash) ?

I think I can help if you are using Windows, I don't think it is possible if you are using Web.

Yes I use the windows version. The web / Flash does not work very well as a directors version. I like playing with it but direct with the windows. Thank you for your effort and I gladly accept any help.

Without trying to upstage jilly (apologies if I have Jilly :) )

Assuming you have your Tourney Rules and Hand LIN files saved to your Computer

Set up a Tourney then after it has set up and comes up with the message TOURNEY 123456 set-up. Then you now find said Tourney and open then click on Table on Bottom Row of your Screen

This will now open up the Tourney Screen and display the Tournament Management box

In a White Oblong Box near the bottom you should see a lot of Options in your case you click on 'Upload Pre-set Hands for Tourney' now find your LIN file and open it

Next click on 'Upload Conditions of Contest' same again find your file and open

Now you have done

Hope this is Clear

We are getting closer. The problem is creating the LIN file. I can upload a file created by someone else like the addicts rules. But I can not find a way to create the file to upload. It will not upload a file created in word, at least I have tried. The few TD's that I know who have these files say someone else created the file for them. So we now come back to the original problem, How do I create a LIN file which will upload?

I do thank you for any help.

mmmm by create a LIN file do you mean turn Hands you have set up into a LIN file: or do you merely wish to create normal Random Hands for use

For the former contact CASCADE he knows how to convert to LIN files.

If the later you merely go into BBO set up a 'Teaching' table and hide it then click on MOVIE on bottom row in there click on NEW Bottom right then put a name in box so you can remember then put dot in RANDOM start board 1 finish board how many you require eg 12 then click on SAVE on bottom row give it a namee and where on your computer you want to keep them

Easy as that really

No when a director creates a tournament the only way to create tournament rules that are posted is to use the upload conditions choice under the tournament management choices. The problem is that has to be a "lin" file. I have tried to use the bridge movie to create a "lin" file. when I up loaded that file the screen locked up and each time I accessed the tournament rules my screen would lock up. The rules screen looked like the results of a tournament not a list of rules.

Maybe another way of asking is how do I upload tournament rules to a tournament I have created?

Correction: The question is how do I create the tournament rules file to upload? Where / how can I create a "lin" file? Creating the file is the problem. Once I have a "lin" file I can upload it. I can not create the file. When I google "lin"files I find that they are Autocad type of files. I am sure that there must be another way to create them. I also see they are simular to pbn files. So far I can not find a program which will create the "lin" file.

This is how to convert your Tourney Rules in .lin format:

PM me if you still need help with this - i'll do my best to clarify.

Thank You, we are headed in the right direction now. I have used the BBO text to lin converter. I get a file which goes to my desktop and looks like the same as the BBO log in. But when I upload this file to the conditions of contest / tournament rules I get a screen filled with a table and four empty seats. no cards showing. Not the text file I am looking for. I do not know if it is the text file I have to transfer the text to lin file which is generated by the BBO conversion file system or if I have another problem not yet understood I have used three text editor file systems at this time and get the same result.

I now understand why the new flash browser BBO system does not use tournament rules. But many of the directors like the windows version best to direct from which does show each tournament rules if posted.

You have to give it a name that you can recognize, i suppose... and then make sure you upload the right .lin file. It sounds like you accidentally uploaded a hand instead of the rules you prepared.

No I am up loading the file that is created. I have no hands called coldturkey and I do not think BBO names any hands that. That is also why I put the file on the desktop. I am sure it has to do with the text editor which I am using not saving the file correctly. Have tried three and still get the same results. I am sure this is not done by many td's anymore and it is just something I have not got correct.

1. Use this link to open the lin converter:

text to lin converter

2. In the upper box, click and paste your tourney rules.

3. Click the CONVERT button

4. A text will appear in the lower box. Click inside that box, select all text (use CTRL+A) and copy it (CTRL+C)

5. Open a Notepad document. Paste the converted text in it.

6. Save it with the extension .lin (for example coldturkey.lin)

Then, create a tourney, click the green TABLE button, click on "Upload conditions of contest"

Test it, by clicking the Rules button.

Just re-checked all this and it works fine.

PROBLEM SOLVED !!!!!

Not sure which if not both mistakes did the fix.

First mistake, deleting the first line in the top box which said "enter or past text ......

Second Mistake, tried the texpad editor which did work.

Can not THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THE HELP AND HAVING SUCH GREAT PATIENCE with me!
