Voted 2.

Close, depends somewhat on, how much in a habit partner and I am, biddng 2 on a three-card-suit.

I play that 2 virtually guarantees 4. Combined with that xxx in Diamonds is bad, we are white, and that theA may not pull it's full weight, I choose the conservative option.

Stating the obvious (well, obvious to an overbidder like me): KJxx/AQ10xx/x/Axx is a clear 3.

I may be somewhat tainted by my frequency of opening light, but here's my thought.

First, I am about a King above minimum. Throw out the spade King, and I have an opening bid.

Second, when the takeout double is of a 2 overcall of a major, Opener has less space to unwind and will frequently bid a 3-card major. What else with the exact same honors (perhaps with the heart Queen instead a small heart) and 3-5-1-4 shape?

Third, I wouldn't double as frequently with Responder's hand as many. With just four spades, I can wait for a reopening double.

So, my tendency, perhaps, of lighter initial actions and more conservative use of a negative double in this sequence compels me to bid 3. That may well be a downside to the approach. Pros and cons.

You must be 100% wrong because I am in complete agreement with you especially regarding how bad a 2 call could be when we actually want to encourage partner.

I bid 3S and partner raised to 4S on Axxx xx xxx KQxx, of course a terrible fit. With spades splitting 4-1 and the hearts finesse offside I ended up -3. -150 was not a big deal at IMPs, but I wondered if I made a reasonable bid. Had they bid 2C then I think that 3S would be completely automatic, now after 2D (which was not raised) the hand looks worse.

I think your 3 is clearer than 4.

IMO 3 = 10 , 2 = 6.
