Precision 1D problem

Recommended Posts

So I've been looking around for a decent structure after it goes

1d 1M ?

I think 2c or 2d here should show 6-10 with a 5+ card suit and a desire to compete.

3c here shows 11-13 with 5+ clubs and no stopper

So now 2M will encompass either a hand waiting to drop in a minor, or any forcing minor call. So for example with any 11+ and no stopper/no other major, you begin with 2S, or any 44 minorish hand with 8-10 pts. Now assuming LHO passes, opener bids their longer minor, or 2NT to either show a spade stop, or equal length in the minors. The person who bid 2M, now bids the following over 2NT

3c- a hand that was 44+ in the minors wanting to drop in the better minor

3d- 11-13 5+ diamonds

3h- 14+ asking opener to bid 3NT with a stopper

3s- slammish hand with 44+ minors

3NT - to play

4C - 5+ clubs, slammish

4D - 5+ diamonds, slammish

Now if the auction goes

1d 1M 2M x ?

opener will xx with any 14-15 and no stopper, pass with any hand 11-13 or without a 5 card minor, or bid 2NT with a spade stop and 14-15.

opener will bid 3c or 3d with 5+ and 11-13 pts.

The last auction to cover then is

1d 1M 2M x xx p ?

2NT - a hand that wants opener to bid their better minor, intending to drop

3C - 14+ 5+ clubs

3D - 11-13 5+ diamonds

3H - 14+ 5+ diamonds

3S - any slammish 44ish minors hand

You have an interesting suggestion.

What do you do on this auction?

1D 1M 2M 3M

?

well I think its trying to fix the problem of when one side is making 2M and our side is making 3m, but we have no real way to compete to that level. Once LHO bids 3M it will likely get passed back to you, and I guess dbl would be DSIP, and 3NT would show 14+ with a spade stop/double stop.

What's your 1D promise? I had a thread not long ago for artificial 1D (1M) auctions. At present we're using...

1D (1H)

.....dbl-4 spades

.....1S-4+ diamonds

.....1N-5 spades, f

.....2C-4+ clubs, f

.....2D-9-11, 3 diamonds and 4+ clubs

.....2H-6 spades, inv+

.....2S-5/4 or 4/5 minors

.....2N-invite

.....3m-to play

1D (1S)

.....dbl-4+ hearts

.....1N-bal, doesn't need a stopper, tends to deny 4 spades

.....2C-natural, f

.....2D-natural, f

.....2H-natural, f

.....2S-5/4 or 4/5 minors

.....2N-invite

.....3m-to play

1D promises at least 2 diamonds, balanced 13-15 or 11-15 1C or 1D opener in standard.
