I don't see how you can blame West at all. Based on the 2 bid from East, West thought there was 9 Diamonds as well as ~20 HCP, and therefore correctly bid on, pretty much assured of not getting Doubled. The 4 is atrocious, and I think I would have a stern talking to partner about doing that again.

Both get a lot of charge.

4 is awful as the others have indicated.

I don't like 3 either. Even at MPs, what are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to escape undoubled for -1? I think you are really praying that your LHO takes one more call that you can beat.

Nor do I understand 2. What is wrong with a negative x? This would get a 1N rebid, and East would compete to 3, and no one would be doing anything over 3.

Last, I don't even like ONE diamond LOL. We have both minors and a sub-minimum, so why let the opponents into the auction when it might get passed out? We don't want a diamond lead. Just pass.

Both of the final passes are faultless. WD.

It is true that bridge books write that you need 5 card-support to raise a 1m opening in competition, but that's really non-sense. Most hands with 4 diamonds and no 4 hearts should raise on the posted auction - unless they scream bidding 1NT.

East 65%.

Every bid is bad here. If West wants to open, why not 1 instead of 1. East suppressing the five card heart suit is very strange and the East hand is probably worth an immediate 3 anyway. West's 3 can only be right if partner is a chronic underbidder and East's 4 is suicidal with limited offence and Q10x in opponents' suit.

4 is completely wrong.

I would have started with a Negative double (the 5 card, and the fit compensates the lack of HP), and later I can bid 2 or (if needed) 3.
