aguahombre
Welcome to the fora. My take, maybe not the majority take, is that the on-line responder is not weak, but just has no agreed style. If he is weak, and the take-out doubler is strong, he will double again, and then I will suggest two places to play with 4NT. Even at favorable, I don't think I should bid directly, because pard will not know I am weak.
dake50
Let me guess. This hand showed willing to 5-level, BUT partner slammed into a hopeless contract.I pass - even though I REALLY like my shape.
Phil
No. Bidding shows a much better hand and more than a willingness to 'dive'.
nige1
Last hand of a 12 board online mp tourny. You are about 5th/100. nv vs vLHO PARD RHO YOU 1S dbl 4s ?x,xxxx,Q10,98xxxx A frequent and interesting problem, fpancoe. IMO with favourable vulnerability, At Pairs (MP), 5♣ = 10, _P = 6.At Teams (IMPs), _P = 10, 5♣ = 5..Most of the time, partner will be too weak or hold too many spades to act over 4♠. Over half the time, however, I think we will be slightly better off bidding at at the five-level ourselves. Of course, this is a recipe for disaster if partner will expect more for this free-bid (as most would). At MP, however, IMO, your partnership should allow for weak actions like this. gszes
5c because opposite a minimum tox it should rarely go downmore than 3 and 4s is a huge favorite to make. This thinking means a lot of 1 suited hands (with some power) will have to choose x vs bidding the suit at 5 level. The weak hand (like the one shown) will occur far more often than the strong one and at IMPS especially it seems prudent to make sure opps do no get a free vul game their way just because we are weak and the TOX was minimum. nige1
P if you can do it in tempo B-)... You can't pass in tempo, RHO used his stop card for his jump :P The purpose of the stop-card is to mandate a slower tempo :)
