GIB the genius

What I still don't understand is why it always wants to play high cards when it's not necessary. At trick 1 it ruffs high, and at trick 2 there's no reason at all to play 9 to the Ace, you might even need it later on. Nevertheless it wastes 2 possibly valuable high trumps. Shouldn't it be basic coding to avoid this?

Gib doesnt seem to be really a decision making entity. It just simulates lots of hands. Once it discovered that the trumps were 4-0 it started playing for the most likely layout, which it apparently thought that there was no chance of an over-ruff. I.e., it must have originally included hands where clubs were 2-2 with Q on teh right, but after trumps are 4-0 it is only playing for holdings where there is no chance of an overruff so the choice of club is random.

Aaron - as far as I can tell your example hands were played against "basic robots" that you rented using the web-client.

If the money is not an issue for you and if you care about the quality of your GIB partners and opponents, I strongly suggest you rent the "advanced robots" instead. I think you will find that there is a dramatic difference.

I discuss this subject at greater length in a recent comment I made in this Forums thread:
