Should I Stay or Should I Go?

I can see either 4 doubled or playing in 4 as being the best contract, but I would not be so confident playing in 5. It would not surprise me if North turned up with four spades.

This all depends upon your partnership agreements and the effect any bid you make will have upon partners subsequent action, especially the way the vulnerability is loaded. I have a good idea on partners shape, less so on his high cards. I am fairly certain that 4 will go down a couple of tricks but would not be surprised that 4 would return the better score.

If I could double for penalties without partner getting too excited I would do that, otherwise I would pass in the expectation that partner will make another bid other than pass. If partner does pass then it's possible we have lost some imps, but it's also possible we have avoided turning a positive into a negative.

What pressure? My hand is bad, and my hearts are good, so I pass and hope to defend. Bidding here is just ridiculous.

I thought it was obvious to bid 4S.

I entered the bidding and the hand in Jack and let him bid. He DBL's...for penalty.

I created a profile with the bidding and the hand and these are the Par scores:

- Lower then 4H or 4H down: |||||||||||||||||||||||

- 4S by W: |

- 4S: |||

- 5Hx-3: ||

On one of the 5Hx-3 hands West was very strong and would DBL.

On the other 4 4S and 5Hx-3 hands West had around 14/15 pts and a singleton/void H. Not sure if West should DBL again with that hand. 4H goes -3 on the 4S hands.

=> To my surprise Pass seems very clear.

Stay or Go?

Team Match

Your gut tells you the score is about even with 3 boards remaining.

What is your call?

What are the vulnerabilites ?

At equal vul: I bid 4. Parter has a void and should have at least 4card (a bicolore in the minors is a far away possibility).

Only if they are vul and we not I would consider a penalty double, and only if I feel we we are ahead in the match.

The bidding that was shown indicates that they are not vulnerable and you are.

At IMPS (this is a team game) 4 seems obvious.

i prefer DBL than 4,PD must hv void ,and A is not good value for playing 4 but for defense 4X,4X contract might down -4 at least i think,it's worth than 620. if let A in any other suit i wd bid 4 definitely.

I don't understand why people think it's good to have most of our strength opposite a void. Even opposite a suitable non-minimum like KQxx - AJxx AJxxx, 4 isn't great.

However, if you are going to act, how can it possibly be right to bid 4 rather than double? If partner leaves it in you'll be surprised but delighted. Assuming he takes it out, if he has four spades he'll bid them, and if he doesn't you'll at least reach a contract where you have enough trumps.

Double and for penalties. This is teams right, so the only guy i must outwit is the east in the other tbl. Lets hope his/hers ride has been as bumpy as mine.

4 may or may not make, but 4 aint gonna make. Prds double promises something in red vs. white and my hand is more defensive than offensive. If 4 makes we shld be able to collect at least 500 vs. 620, so not so bad but the actual bonus comes when 4 doesent make, then we collect 100 or 300 instead of

- 100.

This is the problem in another tbl too, lets hope oppos decision is the same or worse than mine. Pre-empts do make u life difficult.

Bidding 4S here is a joke. We have approximative the points partner expect but 5 out of 8 arent working full time, the spades lenght is slightly above average. The only good feature is the stiff clubs (still good in defense) and good D spots. We are also going to get X a non negligeable amount of hands. Also its still possible partner got a 3046/3055
