how do you play...1N (2H*) 2S

Recommended Posts

The question I would ask, when deciding with pard what 2 should show would be:

What is the relative likelihood <_< that responder will have a hand which wishes to play in exactly two of a suit RHO has at least 4 of --versus the liklihood of having some other holding which could make use of the bid and cannot really be handled in another way?

Strong suggestion: don't get involved in stopper showing (or asking) when an opponent has shown 2 known suits, especially when 3NT is overwhelmingly likely to be the only game contract that has a chance - just bid 3NT instead.

The point is that you do not want to give 4th hand a chance to tell his partner which of the 2 suits he prefers to have led. Another risk of going slowly is that this sometimes gives the opponents a chance to investigate the possibility of sacrificing over 3NT (and when the "sacrifice" is 4 of a major and it happens to make, that is really something you would rather avoid).

Winning bridge is not only about getting to the "right contract". You still get to keep your game bonus for bidding and making 3NT when they fail to find the killing lead.
