nige1
Basic 2/1/ Match-pointed pairs, EW vul. As dealer, South, do you open ♠ AQ94 ♥ JT762 ♦ 43 ♣ K2What if the major honours were swapped? What if the major suits were exchanged?
helene_t
Oops sr I voted "sometimes" because I would open in 3rd/4th except maybe when vulnerable at IMPs. Given the conditions my answer is no.
paulg
Yes, especially when the jack is supported by a ten.
jmcw
1. No - Close2. Yes - Strongest of the 33. Yes - Easy rebid
Free
I don't like to open light in 2/1 without a clear rebid. Hands 1 & 2 don't have clear rebids and lack extra distribution (5422 is balanced imo). Hand 3 has a clear rebid but also lacks extra distribution. In 1st seat they're all passes for me. I'd only open hands 2 and 3 in 3rd seat. If your partner has a balanced 12-13 count with a 5 card minor suit, we'll be in a very light game. With imps scoring it might be justified, but not in MP imo.
mike777
yes, easy on all three but I love to open lite but tell pard and esp. the opp. on one and two I pass if pard bids 1nt and rebid 2s! if pard makes a 2/1.

nige1
Thank you to those who voted. I'm grateful for the comments. Whatever the other merits of 2/1, it seems to me that not opening on such hands is a drawback of the system. ♠ AQ9x ♥ JTxxx ♦ xx ♣ Kx seems doubly flawed, compared with ♠ JTxx ♥ AQ9xx ♦ xx ♣ Kx or ♠ JTxxx ♥ AQ9x ♦ xx ♣ Kx but many would not open any of them. Very common in 2/1.
gwnn
AQ9xx JTxx xx Kx maybe just maybe. I'd be happy to open the first one 1S in a canapé system. :)
Lurpoa
well, I tend to open all those hands... but I see that most of you aren't. SO....I guess i am too agressive.....
hrothgar
Hands like these are the reason that I play strong club systems (For the record, I would pass with all of these hands playing 2/1 GF)
MickyB
Yup, pass all three playing 2/1, amazed so many have said otherwise. I'd open all three playing sensible methods.
fromageGB
It has to depend on partnership agreement. My instinct is "no", but there again I'd open a "weak both majors" 2♦. Without that, or similar, a partnership would have to agree on minimum strength for a 1M open. I like to keep it sound, but if partner wanted to play it this weak I would have to adjust the values of my responses.
mr1303
I voted that I would only open the last one (mostly because of the rebid issues), but I've been convinced that in 2/1 pass is definitely correct.
