What's xyz?

xyz is a common form of checkback. Without going in depth you can do a forum search but 2c over 1nt would force 2d by you then I would pass or start an inv sequence. 2d over 1nt is art and game force.

In any event without alot of discussion I would bid 2d here which partner should assume is some version of checkback.

Checkback/nmf whatever you wish to call it simply is an artificial bid which asks in this auction if partner has 3s. In this case if yes then bid 2s...if no opener will very often just rebid 2nt.

Since for me 2d is game force now I can rebid 3c which would show 5+ clubs and often can be a slam try in clubs.

1c=(1h)=1s=p

1nt=p=2d!=p

2nt=p=3c!

Wouldn't most people play that 1 shows five spades and therefore 1NT denies three-card support?

ya I agree but I would still bid 2d as art and gf, checkback.

A direct 3c over 1nt would be weak for me but some people play it as a slam try by agreement.

But the mainpoint of checkback will be to look for 3 card support of the bid major. But agree in this example pard has denied 3s.

So, are we simply instructing partner to bid 2N so we can bid a forcing 3? Or should partner cuebid the A if he has it? Or would he bid 3 with a 5card suit?

Wouldn't 2 be clearly artificial and forcing? What differences would be implied by choosing either 2 or 2 over the other?

over 2d pard should make a simple natural rebid. On this auction I would expect that to be 2nt very very often.

No dont cuebid anything.

I think 2h here would just muddy the waters....KISS.
