75% south....25% north.

If 2s is nf and it is for me then south has an easy pass. We found a major and pard did not make a forcing bid. North might just have bid 3c and not 2s.

I think 2c is fine....it is meant to be pretty random and aggressive over 1d and we are nv.

3nt is way too much.

Clearly if you play 2s promises much more and a better suit then 2s is terrible.

North 30%. South 70%.

South made two terrible calls (2 and 3NT) that were a direct cause of the problem. North made one bad call that ought to have made no difference.

Hi Nigel, is 2 really terrible?

2 was forcing 1R. I know 3N was very agressive, we were behind and I thought I should put my neck out.

2 is pretty bad. If LHO has clubs and they double you don't really have many tricks. It doesn't have much lead directing value and there is a good chance you will be on lead if they play NT. Plus your hand is very defensive and you have the worst possible diamond holding so they probably can't make much and partner is likely to over-compete. For example, I would definitely compete to the four level with your partner's hand if they bid hearts. If you concede less than 300 in 4 they probably are not making 3. If your clubs were KQ9xx instead of A9xxx it would be a much better overcall.

Your arguments in favour of 3NT are wrong because you have a partner who can also be aggressive and has a much better idea of your side's combined assets. Since you can overcall 2 with much stronger hands you want partner to keep the auction open if possible and they can't do that if you might bid this way.
