kenrexford
What's wrong with 4♦? If the problem is that this would be kickback, I don't see that as a problem. Kickback works wonders, also. If I had to pick between 3 and 6, I'd blast 6.
luke warm
it's been quite awhile for me, but i'd have bid 3♦ over west's 2♦... iirc, that sets (p'ship agreement i guess) a game force... i guess then it would go 3♦ : 3nt4♣ : 4♠ (has to show the king)4nt (is this bw now? i hope so) : 5♦6♣
matmat
the hand in this thread reminds me of a team match I watched yesterday.
Winstonm
Why did south open the bidding?
Trinidad
Why did south open the bidding? To avoid missing a slam opposite a partner who holds 16 HCP. :P All foolishness aside: I can see that you would pass the South hand and I don't want to feed everyone that would pass, but I think it is a normal minimum opening bid in a slightly aggressive (aka "modern" ;)) style. Cyberyeti
I'd always open the south hand (either 1♣ or weak no trump), but would also always bid 2♥ on the N hand first time, showing 5+♥, 4+♣, only F1 but big when I bid again. In your auction I'd probably bid 3♦ over 2♦
kfay
South's hand is total !@$?. Opening this isn't aggressive, it's diseased. There is a line, you know, and terrible 11s are below that line. If you've agreed otherwise inside your partnership, then fine. But that's the exception, not the rule. 3♣ is nonforcing, so obviously it's wrong also. Then again, maybe North was praying they could even make 3♣ since they've obviously seen partner's laughable judgment re: opening bids before.
ggwhiz
1♣ AND 3♣ are from another planet. As Billy Eisenberg once said after a bidding screw up playing with Eddie Kantar, "That's ok, we deserve each other".
tolvyrj
I agree that souths 1♣ opening is... aggressive, but norths 3♣ is outlandish. Im sure it was meant as forcing, but it aint and it turns out that south shares my opinion B-) .3♦ as FG and when south bid 3Nt u take it away bidding 4♣. That way u should be able to find u 6♣. gwnn
Good rule to remember: bidding opener's suit at the cheapest level in competition is always natural and non-forcing*. *this rule does say or deny whether other bids are forcing, or that bidding opener's suit in unopposed bidding is forcing, or anything more than it says**neither do I mean to assume that jillybean was North, or that she didn't know this rule***I'm just having fun with this small font
