Does it make a difference depending on the strains being considered (as in, if the opponents had diamonds and spades, or hearts and spades)? Opponents were playing a convenient minor SA style, but feel free to say if that makes a difference as well. When this (fairly routine) auction came up today I took it as invitational and that's how my partner intended it, but given the cuebids we have available I wonder if that's the best way of doing things. dbsboy Posted March 16, 2011 Report Share Posted March 16, 2011 I voted invitational because in my metarules, a cuebid of my opponent's suit usually sets up a Game Force. Also, it does not seem that opps will compete that often here, unlike 1M-2M-(Pass), while 1M-2M-3M as preemptive seems quite useful. Another reason why this is obviously invitational: responder has passed, prepared to defend 2♥, and opener has limited their hand by raising to 2♦ only, there is much less need for pre-emptive bidding now compared to a situation where the opponents haven't limited their hands. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

This is one of them.Indeed, in this country where a club usually shows more than 2 (or if you move all the suits up one), you have 3♣ (or their lower suit) available as a cue as well. We would normally play 3♣ inv, 3♦ FG. I would very rarely double with only 3 hearts here (and would be 19+ bal to do so most of the time), but this is probably a consequence of not meeting the 2 card club much. In the first place it is necessary to agree with partner on your actions in the sandwich position:what is ? Double ? 1NT ? 2NT ? 2♣ ? 2♦? What are the requirements to bid 2♥ or 2♠ ?... Competitive makes no sense! There was no bid after 2H. What are you competing for, by bidding 3H? Why make 2 when you can go down in 3 prize?
