pooltuna
You are Not Vulnerable they areYou are playing IMPS.Your system is some version of SAYCAs dealer you hold ♠T752♥AT93♦void♣K9753 and you successfully resist the urge to preempt 2♦ or open 1 of anything so the auction proceeds You LHO CHO RHOP P 1♣ 1♥ X 2♥ P P? Do you take a non-pass call?
mtvesuvius
Maybe I'm overthinking this, but... Partner has <4♠, since they didn't bid 2♠Partner probably has a stiff/void in hearts, 2 on a bad day.Partner has more clubs than diamonds probably.Partner didn't double 2♥, they may not even have 3♠... This means at worst, we are facing a 3244 type hand. I'm quite tempted by 4♣, I think game will certainly have play opposite most hands, but I also don't want to get too high... Although if partner has concentration in ♦, I expect them to have opened 1♦, so it looks like we're facing a 3244 without much wastage, a 3145 with a bit of wastage, or 2146 or something. I feel like I'm missing something, but it seems like 4♣ is a winner.
cherdano
I would rather bid 5♣ than pass.

Bbradley62
I'm not gonna punish partner for a potentially light third-seat opening. 3♣.

Bbradley62
How many ♥ do you think partner has? How many ♠?Partner is most likely 3145. Still don't want to punish him for opening Jxx, x, KJxx, AQxxx in third seat.
mtvesuvius
BBradley, That's why I bid 4♣ and not 5. If you were playing support doubles then there is an even bigger case for bidding 5.

You would really open that in 3rd seat? IMO it is opening the door for the opponents I would try to get the hand passed out unless you play KS or equivalent where you are screwed into opening it. To paraphrase JLoll "competing in the minors vacuums" :)

pooltuna
5♣ Good choice! I didn't mind Adam's 4♣ but I've had too many cowards for pickup partners :)Partner had ♠KJx♥K♦xxxx♣AQxxx
nigel_k
3♣. Surely nobody would pass, but since we are not playing support doubles partner is limited by his failure to double 2♥. I will compete to 4♣ if they bid 3♥.

If I was playing against myself, I'd have no idea what I had.
