jillybean
rho opens 1♣1♣:1♥ 1N:AP You hold 9854,852,KJ6,KT5 and your lead agreements are standard, 4th best Do you lead ♠4, is there any other card you would consider?
ArtK78
If I lead a spade, it would be the 9. I don't want to mislead partner into thinking that I have honor(s) in spades. I would also consider leading a high heart. But it seems likely that spades is the right suit to lead.
wyman
Spade is the "obvious" lead, and I may lead it to stay with the field at MP. I will lead a high one (9 or 8, per my agreements) if I choose that route. A heart can hardly hurt, though; at IMPs I'd probably lead one, since I think it's more likely to be right. I'd definitely lead a high heart at IMPs if it were doubleton. Pard has almost an opening hand and didn't double, so I'm counting on him having cards somewhere in the opps' suits. Clubs might be right, but it looks suicidal to lead one from this holding. I'm also never leading a diamond, ever. So heart it is. edit: also P will shift to a spade / signal for a spade shift when it's right, since it's likely that opener does not have 4, and he can see how many are in dummy. It seems like whenever I lead a spade in this situation, dummy comes down with Tx and declarer has AJx and I've solved a problem for her, or lost a tempo. So we might as well try to hit partner's heart suit, planning on repeated heart leads when I get in with my kings. I suppose this all depends somewhat on how likely these opponents are to raise partner's major suit response with three cards.
655321
Spade is completely normal, heart lead just seems bad to me.
Siegmund
High spade seems normal to me. If you ordered me to lead a non-spade I would give serious consideration to a diamond, on the theory that 1C-then-1NT limits declarer to at most 3 diamonds. If this is an "up the line" partnership the diamond becomes more appealing since dummy won't have 4 or 5 diamonds.
